This vacancy will be filled by promotion and is open to current DOTD employees only.

The overall function of this position is to assist the District Traffic Operations Engineer and the Unit 002 Traffic Operations Manager in fulfilling the duties of the District Traffic Section. This position is located in District 03/Unit 002 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the District Traffic Operations Engineer. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR

A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Job Duties And Other Information

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the District outdoor advertising program to ensure compliance with Federal Highway Administration requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise for traffic data collections and analysis that include but are not limited to conducting manual peak hour turning movement counts, 24-hour machine volume counts, speed studies, intersection diagrams, researching crash reports, utilizing capacity analysis/signal timing software.
  • Reviews guide sign requests associated with the Tourist Oriented Directional Signs (TODS) and the Interstate Logo Program to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Retrieves crash reports and work orders and composes letters for reimbursements to damaged signs and traffic signals.
  • May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, Emergency/Disaster support duties.
