Senior Engineer- Transportation Systems

Job Purpose:

Lead autonomous mobility engineering projects by planning, trialing, and optimizing smart public transport systems and infrastructure in Dubai. Coordinate technologies, trials and stakeholders to ensure safe, efficient and future-ready autonomous mobility services aligned with RTA strategies.

Roles & Accountabilities:

Strategy

• Lead autonomous transport projects and initiatives in line with Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy, ensuring alignment of scope, timelines and outcomes with approved strategic directions.

• Prepare and develop executive and operational plans to activate smart public transport systems and enabling infrastructure, including autonomous and innovative systems, in coordination with concerned departments.

• Integrate emerging technologies such as AI, ML and IoT into autonomous mobility systems to enhance innovation, service reliability and operational efficiency.

• Develop and oversee RFP documentation for autonomous mobility projects in coordination with Procurement and Finance Departments, ensuring technical specifications and evaluation criteria support strategic requirements.

• Manage innovative autonomous mobility projects in line with RTA’s project management framework and future mobility vision, ensuring governance, risk controls and reporting requirements are met.

• Review and enrich research and studies on smart public transportation and its systems, assessing their contribution to efficiency and effectiveness with Planning and Business Development and entities concerned.

• Manage and oversee events, exhibitions, and international conferences related to autonomous mobility and smart transportation, including Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport and the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport, among other related initiatives, from planning and stakeholder coordination through execution and post-event evaluation.

Operations

• Monitor implementation of autonomous mobility projects across land, air and sea vehicles, connected vehicles and self-driving public transport, escalating deviations to concerned teams.

• Manage end-to-end autonomous system trials covering design, testing, safety validation and performance review in coordination with technical teams and stakeholders.

• Implement experiments in the operation and development of autonomous and smart public transport means and systems with concerned departments, partners and international research centers in line with approved procedures.

• Coordinate with developers, startups, smart public transport service providers, manufacturers, airlines and regulators on technical and operational matters related to autonomous systems implementation.

• Prepare bilingual Arabic and English reports for autonomous mobility projects and initiatives, consolidating technical, operational and performance information for internal and external audiences.

• Maintain project documentation and track milestones and deliverables for autonomous mobility projects in internal systems to support monitoring and follow-up.

• Plan and deliver awareness workshops on autonomous and smart public transport systems for employees and stakeholders, proposing future initiatives on smart public connectors and systems.

• Prepare and review press release content on innovative and autonomous mobility projects, ensuring accuracy, alignment with RTA messaging and necessary approvals in coordination with the Marketing Department.

Product / Process Improvement

• Evaluate performance of autonomous vehicles and systems using trial and operations data, identifying areas for improvement, optimization and risk mitigation.

Physical Working Conditions

• Operate primarily from an office and control environment with regular attendance at field trials, test sites and events, and occasional extended hours during system deployments, testing phases and public demonstrations.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree in engineering.

Experience:

3+ years in case of Master's degree (5+ years in case of Bachelor’s degree).
