Robotics Engineer – Localisation, Mapping and Navigation

We are seeking a highly skilled Robotics Navigation and Localisation Engineer to support the development of advanced aerial (preferred) and mobile robotic systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, prototyping, and validating state-of-the-art positioning, localisation, mapping, and autonomous navigation solutions for operation in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Start date: As of August 2026.
Analysing project requirements from use cases
Identifying solutions from the State-of-the-Art navigation and data fusion techniques
Contribute to the software architecture design, software development of algorithms and testing with simulated and real data sets
Development and evaluation of software for autonomous navigation of mobile robots with manipulation capabilities
Integration of new sensors and actuators in the platform depending on project requirements
End-to-end implementation, testing, integration and optimisation on target robot architecture and simulated twin.
Willingness to commit and take major responsibilities in challenging robotic field test campaigns.
A Master or PhD in relevant fields (AI, robotics, computer science, software engineering)
At least 1-3 years of demonstrable experience in filtering/estimators, mapping, navigation and SLAM techniques
Demonstrable experience in robotics perception, localisation and navigation – Nav2, motion controllers, path planning, custom behaviour trees
Strong background in path planning, kinematics, dynamics and control of mobile robots
Strong experience with UAV control, localisation and navigation
Experience with MAVLink, MAVROS, Ardupilot, PX4 and similar environments
Very strong programming skills (C++, Python) on Linux environment, Git tools and docker
Good experience of robotics software development in ROS/ROS2
Proven experience on integration and testing of developed SW components on real robots and within an industrial setting or field testing and validation campaigns
Good proficiency with technical documentation
Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines
Good written and spoken English.
Development using robotics simulators (e.g. Gazebo, Webots, Unity)
Experience in working with manipulators and grasping methods
Experience using one or more DL frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
Robotics software architectures design and Network schemas
Continuous Integration methodologies.
Previous experience in EU/EDF/ESA projects or similar.
Working within an exceptional sector with Staff located in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands
