The Opportunity

Lesley University's Department of Social Sciences and Humanities is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: AINTD 2008 - Lives in Context; Fall 2026 Term I; Remote, Asynchronous.

Course Description:
This course is a transitional seminar designed to prepare adult learners for academic and professional success. Students will define their personal and professional goals while exploring the foundations of adult learning theory and its relevance to their success. Students will be exposed to the availability of library resources and how to effectively utilize them for research and writing throughout the program. In addition, the course will focus on students’ personal experiences within the context of contemporary society. Through the reading and writing of autobiographical and biographical texts, students will examine how life themes and transitions are shaped by social, historical, and political realities. This introductory course is designed to help returning adult learners build a supportive learning community, develop strategies for success, and engage with Lesley University services and resources, including opportunities for credit for prior learning.

Qualities & Capabilities

A successful candidate will have:

• Master's degree in Adult Education, Higher Education, Liberal Studies, or a closely related field (required); PhD or terminal degree (preferred)

• Experience teaching at the college level, particularly with adult, transfer, or nontraditional students

• Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory and student success practices

• Commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and equitable teaching practices

• Experience facilitating reflective writing, discussion-based learning, and academic skill development

• Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology to support teaching and learning

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
