Job Title: Vehicle Calibration Engineer – Software Integration

Location: Mount Vernon, WA, 98273

Pay Range: $45-$55/hr. (All Inclusive)

Duration: 11+months contract


Requisition Summary

We are looking for a driven Calibration Engineer to join our Vehicle Calibration team. This role offers an opportunity to focus on the calibration and in-vehicle verification of heavy-duty and medium-duty vehicle functions. The selected individual will work in a global, cross-divisional, and innovative team to develop and calibrate “Best in Class” vehicle functions for North America.

Division Information

The client's Technical Centre provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Centre is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington. The Vehicle Calibration & System Integration team is responsible for the calibration, integration, and verification of vehicle-level features/functionality such as cruise control, speed limiters, warnings and telltales, etc., across the client's entire vehicle lineup from ICE to BEV powertrains.


Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in the calibration, verification, release, and implementation of software
  • Uses engineering principles and experience to integrate, calibrate, and optimize vehicle performance functionality via in-vehicle testing of vehicle control system software
  • Develops and executes test plans for requirements verification and reports any discovered defects
  • Provides technical feedback on proposed product changes
  • Provides support to the running business group in the calibration, verification, and release of running change software releases
  • Provides relevant input to the development, communication, and management of vehicle calibration plans, including timing, quality, and budget
  • Translates customer requirements into software calibration data and configurations for the organization
  • Collaborates with and provides support to the Control, Software, and Validation Teams with testing, root cause analysis, and defect resolution
  • Contributes to on-time software releases and maintains calibration quality standards
  • Stays current on software functionality and product requirements for their assigned functions
  • Identifies opportunities or provides input for new initiatives to improve calibration and testing methods for higher efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with other groups and divisions

Required Qualifications

  • BS in appropriate technical field
  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability and desire to obtain
  • Knowledge of vehicle and powertrain management systems and performance
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols: J1939, UDS, XCP, Ethernet, CAN-bus, LIN-bus
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-directed, excellent analysis, and engineering judgment are required
  • Organized and disciplined with the ability to manage personal workload and a willingness and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs & enter/exit truck cabins repeatedly
  • Ability to travel up to 10%


Desired Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with vehicle development, integration, or testing
  • MS/MEng in a technical field
  • Experience with vehicle data acquisition systems and test equipment (e.g., ATI Vision, Vector CANape).
  • Knowledge of diesel and electric powertrains on Class 5-8 vehicle applications
  • Proficiency in using a programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, C++, or MATLAB) for developing, testing, and data analysis scripts
  • Experience using software emulation tools to conduct testing
  • Familiar with Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and/or SOTIF (ISO 21448)
  • ISTQB Foundation Level knowledge or certification
