Our Information Technology department is seeking an Associate Application Engineer to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA Corporate Headquarters in a hybrid work arrangement.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions. You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
This is a full-time, exempt role.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Build highly reliable full‑stack solutions using React.js and Spring Boot.
- Build new applications, prototypes, and proof‑of‑concept solutions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including architects, business analysts, and QA engineers.
- Work on the design, coding, unit testing, deployment, and monitoring of the software you build.
- Work closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on solution delivery.
- Translate business requirements into scalable, high‑performing systems.
- Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.
- Optimize application performance, security, and stability.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and process improvements.
- Build knowledge of P&C insurance concepts, business processes, and Hanover systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field OR 3+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong work ethic, prioritization skills, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of React.js.
- Knowledge of Java and Spring Boot.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, and application performance management.
- Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (i.e Lawful Permanent Resident or US Citizen)
- Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI‑assisted development platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and deployments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with UX/UI concepts and front‑end best practices.

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience.
