<Summary>

Position: 【No Japanese required】Control Software Engineer

Salary: ¥8M~¥15M

Location: Hybrid(Kyoto)

[Company Profile]

This is with a deep-tech startup developing and commercializing world-leading neutral-atom quantum computing systems, one of the most promising next-generation computing architectures.

The company was established in collaboration with leading quantum physics research groups in Japan and is working toward the practical realization of quantum computers as a next-generation computational platform. Through joint research initiatives with universities, national laboratories, and global technology partners, the team is advancing quantum hardware development for future industrial applications and international markets.

Quantum computing is expected to transform industries such as:

drug discovery

advanced materials design

artificial intelligence

financial optimization

energy systems

Among multiple quantum architectures, the company focuses on neutral-atom quantum computing, widely considered one of the most scalable and promising approaches for large-scale quantum processors.

This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute not only to research infrastructure but also to the real-world deployment and industrialization of next-generation computing technology.

[Job description]

Transitioning from research-facility control systems to a production-grade control infrastructure capable of stably operating actual quantum computers.

In this position, you will build the operational infrastructure for our quantum computer control systems from scratch (a 0-to-1 phase). You will establish frameworks for maintenance, monitoring, deployment, and updates across both development and live machine environments.

By automating operations, you will enable senior engineers to move away from daily troubleshooting and focus entirely on next-generation architecture development. Your work will be vital in achieving our long-term goal: a quantum computer capable of continuous, long-duration operations.

Since this is a greenfield project, requirements are not yet fully definRole Mission

Develop the control software for our quantum computer "Y-1" seamlessly from the device-control level up to the user interface (GUI).

In this position, a single engineer will take cross-layer ownership—covering real-time device control, middleware, GUI, and calibration APIs—to implement end-to-end features used directly in quantum experiments. The defining highlight of this role is the ability to work closely with experimental equipment and the physics team to design and implement everything from hardware signals to the operational screens used by researchers every day.

As this position involves hardware debugging and evaluation using actual machines (such as EMCCD cameras, SLMs, AWGs, etc.), working at our Kyoto site is required.

Since this is a greenfield environment, requirements are not yet fully defined. We welcome professionals who can drive implementation independently amidst evolving conditions and continuously improve systems as they mature.

[Key Responsibilities]

1. Full-Stack Control Software Development

-End-to-end feature development spanning from device control to GUI.

-Seamless implementation linking hardware signals directly to the user interface.

2. Device Control

-Develop control software for the following devices:

-EMCCD Cameras: ROI (Region of Interest) control, atom detection, and threshold determination.

-SLM (Spatial Light Modulator): Hologram generation, light intensity uniformization, and high-speed switching.

-AWG (Arbitrary Waveform Generator): Generating waveforms for atom rearrangement.

3. Middleware Development

-Design and develop various modules that make up the control system, including:

-Sequence control

-Subsystem management

-Connectivity mapping

-Hardware configuration management

-Building a flexible control infrastructure that avoids vendor lock-in.

4. Software Development for Experimentalists

-Integrated GUI

-Calibration APIs

-Experimental operational tools

5. Image Processing & Algorithm Development

-Atom detection algorithms

-Atom rearrangement algorithms

-Calibration automation

6. Hardware Evaluation & Integration Testing

-Integration testing including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL).

-Calibration automation.

-Joint development with the physics and hardware teams.

[Core requirement]

-Professional software development experience using C/C++ and Python.

-Proven experience designing and implementing a feature end-to-end, ranging from low-layer levels (device drivers, embedded software) to the GUI/application layer.

-Software development experience in a Linux environment.

-Solid knowledge and experience regarding low-level I/O, timing control, and interrupt handling.

-Ability to work onsite at the Kyoto location 3 or more days per week.

-English proficiency sufficient to work effectively within a global team.

-Ability and willingness to proactively learn and catch up on new languages, frameworks, and specialized fields directly from academic papers and technical specifications.

[Preferred Qualifications]

-Experience with Embedded Linux / Yocto.

-Experience in device driver development.

-Experience in MCU firmware development.

-Experience designing software that interfaces with FPGAs.

-FPGA development experience (Verilog / VHDL).

-Experience developing image processing and image analysis algorithms.

-Development experience in multiple programming languages (e.g., Go, Rust).

-Experience with real-time control systems.

-Front-end development experience (React, Next.js, TypeScript, etc.).

-Experience controlling optical equipment, lasers, or vacuum systems.

-Interest or experience in machine learning.

-Experience writing technical specifications for systems composed of multiple modules.
