About Healio

Healio is a startup building the next generation of workforce planning software for healthcare institutions. Hospitals, clinics and care institutions are under massive pressure: staff shortages, complex schedules, high absenteeism, and growing dissatisfaction among healthcare teams. We believe planning should not be a painful top-down administrative process, but a collaborative, intelligent and fair system that empowers both managers and caregivers.

We are an early-stage Swiss startup based in Lausanne, founded by an experienced team with deep healthcare, product and startup experience, including previous company-building and exit experience. We already work closely with healthcare institutions and are building a product directly with users in the field.

We are looking for an ambitious Software Engineer to join us as an early team member and help shape the product, the technology and the company from the ground up.

The role

As a Software Engineer at Healio, you will work closely with the founders and CTO to build, improve and scale our platform.

You will contribute across the stack, from user-facing features to backend logic, integrations, data flows and AI-enabled product experiences. This is not a narrow execution role. At this stage, every system in the company is still being designed, and you'll have a real say in the decisions to grow and scale the company. We are looking for someone who wants to understand the product, the users, the technical architecture and the business.

We are AI-native in practice: we constantly evolve how humans and AI agents build software together. You will help define what professional engineering looks like when AI is central to the development of products, which makes fundamentals (architecture, testing, review, security) more important, not less.

What you'll do

  • Build across a modern TypeScript stack: a React Router full-stack web app, a React Native app for caregivers, a multi-tenant PostgreSQL, and infrastructure as code.
  • Work on the hard core of the product: scheduling and planning algorithms, including a constraint-solver optimisation service. Real computer science, not just CRUD.
  • Design clean, scalable and maintainable product features.
  • Integrate AI tools and AI-powered features into the product and the development workflow.
  • Build software that must be trustworthy: multi-tenant isolation, passkey authentication, automated security scanning, and a serious testing culture.
  • Own cyber security as a first-class concern: with sensitive health data, threat modeling, defense in depth and secure-by-default design are everyday engineering, not an afterthought.
  • Collaborate with founders, product and users to turn real healthcare problems into elegant software.
  • Contribute to technical decisions, architecture, code quality and engineering culture.
  • Help us move fast while building a product healthcare institutions can trust.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is technically strong, curious, pragmatic and motivated by the opportunity to build something meaningful from an early stage.

Ideally, you have:

  • Strong experience with TypeScript.
  • Experience with React and modern full-stack web development.
  • A good understanding of APIs, databases, authentication and scalable software architecture.
  • You already work with AI coding tools daily and have developed judgment about when to trust them. You know how systems work end to end, data modeling, software design patterns, security and are able to verify and own everything we ship.
  • Strong written communication: in a small team working with AI agents and real healthcare customers, clearly specifying a problem is half the job.
  • A product mindset: you care about what users need, not just what the code does.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership and move fast.
  • Good communication skills in English. French and/or German are a plus.
  • A long-term mindset and the desire to grow with the company.

You don't need to tick every box. What matters is that you are smart, reliable, and have both the AI-era reflexes and the engineering foundations to build software that healthcare institutions can trust.

Why join Healio?

This is a rare opportunity to join a startup at a very early stage, with real market traction, strong founder experience and a meaningful problem to solve.

As an early employee, you will have:

  • The chance to shape a company where almost nothing is fixed yet: you won't just influence the codebase, you'll help define how we do architecture, design, operations, even how we sell.
  • Direct collaboration with experienced founders.
  • Exposure to real customers and real healthcare workflows.
  • A steep learning curve in product, engineering, AI and startup building.
  • Flexible working conditions and home office.
  • Offices in Lausanne.
  • A multilingual environment across French, English and German.
  • The opportunity to receive an attractive equity / share package as an early team member.

We are not looking for someone who just wants a job. We are looking for someone who wants to build, learn, take ownership and be part of the long-term journey.
