Indexed description

At the Institute of Data Sciences in Jena, we are working to make the data backbone for all of DLR’s areas of application (aviation, space, energy, transport, security) a reality. To this end, we conduct interdisciplinary research and development into methods with a focus on applications such as sustainable and circular processes, resilient supply chains, data-driven value chains and robust decision support. The methods developed in this way are put into practice in cooperation with other DLR institutes and external partners, whether as part of joint projects or through technology transfer activities.

At the DLR Institute of Data Sciences in Jena, the ‘Metadata Management’ research group is developing innovative methods for the semantic description of data and the services built upon it. In particular, knowledge graphs and ontologies are used, which enable even complex relationships to be described in a way that machines can understand. The work is carried out in close cooperation with domain experts from various fields.

We offer you the opportunity to do a thesis or an internship, or to work as a student assistant in the field of knowledge graphs and their application in data management. As part of an international team, you will develop methods and software solutions for the data management systems of the future. You will support the further development of methods and software with a focus on quality assurance in semantic process and data description across research, administration and industry. That way, you will contribute to improving data quality in various fields of application and, ultimately, to more efficient and error-free processes.

Your Tasks

  • Conducting literature reviews with the aim of critically evaluating and comparing new methods and approaches
  • Analysing fundamental requirements for quality assurance in knowledge graphs
  • Implementing own or given methods using software engineering techniques
  • Evaluating and assessing the results
  • Testing and documenting the work

Your Qualifications

  • Currently studying computer science or another subject with a substantial computer science component
  • Good command of German and English
  • Interest in working independently and in a practical setting
  • Sound programming skills in Java
  • Basic knowledge of RDF and SPARQL would be an advantage

We look forward to getting to know you!
