Back End Developer (Python)

Piper Maddox are partnered with a leading climate tech company that specializes in energy trading, optimization of renewable energy assets, origination, and strategic advisory services. They are seeking a developer, proficient in Python and associated technologies, to join their growing team based in NRW.

Main Responsibilities:

• Design and implement APIs with a core focus on Python, FastAPI, and SQLAlchemy.
• Build and maintain data integration services that connect external market data providers, counterparties, and internal systems across European markets.
• Develop and operate reliable data pipelines and workflows with task orchestration handled through Temporal.
• Develop and manage database migrations.
• Write well-tested code and contribute to prototypes, code reviews, and issue resolution.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of backend development experience with Python.
• Proficiency in SQL (preferably PostgreSQL) and solid data-modeling skills.
• Experience with FastAPI and tools such as SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, and Alembic.
• Experience with Pandas.
• Fluency in English (German is a bonus).

Preferred skills:

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools, ideally Temporal.io.
• Knowledge of message brokers and streaming such as Redis and Kafka.
• Experience with containerization technologies, particularly Docker.
• Experience building data integration and real-time data-processing systems.
• Familiarity with energy markets (day-ahead, intraday, ancillary services) is a plus.
