What you will accomplish in this role

The API Engineer serves as a development resource for writing code, test, implementation, document functionality, and maintain of API solutions for the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) enterprise data initiatives. The role requires working closely with data teams, frequently in a matrixed environment as part of a broader project team. Due to the emerging and fast-evolving nature of GCP technology and practice, the position requires that one stay well-informed of technological advancements and be proficient at putting new innovations into effective practice.

As an API Engineer you will be part of the data engineering community which includes data platforms, data warehousing, data science, software engineering, and visual insights. We use our data infrastructure to power analytics and data products and to deliver relevant experiences in real-time. We enable our company to validate strategic decisions, make smarter choices, and react to the fast-changing world of healthcare.

What you will do:

  • Work with API engineers, data engineers, data architects, data scientists, and other internal stakeholders to understand product requirements and then design, build, and monitor APIs and pipelines that meet today's requirements but can gracefully scale.
  • Implement automated workflows that lower manual/operational costs, define and uphold SLAs for timely delivery of data, and move the company closer to democratizing data.
  • Promote a collaborative team environment that prioritizes effective communication, team member growth, and success of the team over success of the individual.
  • Adheres to and supports API engineering best practices, processes, and standards.
  • Produce high quality, modular, reusable code that incorporates best practices and serves as an example for less experienced engineers.
  • Supports data security best practices that align with industry standards and regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Supports data analysis efforts and solution proposals to data related and data architecture problems.
  • Supports implementation of unit and integration tests and promote and conduct performance testing where appropriate.
  • Be a leader in the HCA data community. Evangelize data engineering best practices and standards, participate in community events, and encourage the continual growth and development of others.

  • Demonstrate professional and personal maturity through self-leadership.
  • Build productive and healthy relationships within the department and other teams to foster growth of our culture, our people, and our platforms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field Preferred
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in a API engineering, data engineering, data architecture, or related roles Required\
  • 3+ years of experience in Information Technology Required

A successful candidate will have:

  • Good understanding of best practices and standards for GCP Data process design and implementation.
  • One plus Years of hands-on experience with GCP platform and experience with many of the following components:
  • FasteAPI Framework, Python, API Development
  • Apigee
  • Bruno
  • Dynatrace
  • Kafka streaming
  • API versioning, caching, and pagination
  • Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Function, Cloud Run
  • Bigtable, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner
  • CI/CD, Cloud Logging
  • GitHub
  • Ability to multitask and to balance competing priorities.
  • Ability to define and utilize best practice techniques and to impose order in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including a desire to work within a highly matrixed, team-oriented environment.
  • A successful candidate may have:
  • Experience in Healthcare Domain
  • Hardware/Operating Systems:
  • GCP or other cloud platform experience
  • Distributed, highly scalable processing environments.
  • Linux, UNIX
