Software Engineer, Colab

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 2 years of experience with front-end and user interface development.
• Experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.
• Experience with software like coLaboratory, JupyterLab, or other relevant tools.

In this role, you will deliver user experiences for data science and machine learning practitioners on all of our owned surfaces.

We build and support the “face of the product” to our customers. We strive to delight them with intuitive, helpful, scalable, and reliable product surfaces that allow them to solve real data science problems and derive critical insights. Our team is also responsible for building the next-generation, AI-native data science tools on top of the Colab stack.

The Google Cloud AI Research team addresses AI challenges motivated by Google Cloud’s mission of bringing AI to tech, healthcare, finance, retail and many other industries. We work on a range of unique problems focused on research topics that maximize scientific and real-world impact, aiming to push the state-of-the-art in AI and share findings with the broader research community. We also collaborate with product teams to bring innovations to real-world impact that benefits our customers.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $211000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Participate in a tier 2 on-call rotation to support Colab's production services.
• Contribute to the exploration, design, and implementation of a frontend modernization effort, updating our codebase to align with modern, Google-standard infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design and build an extensible frontend architecture that accelerates the development of new features.
• Develop and deliver high-quality, performance features for critical team projects.
• Design, build, and maintain robust frontend components and services for the Colab applications.
