About the role Put your code in devices that actually reach patients.

A well-established medical device company in south Houston is hiring a Firmware Engineer to build the embedded software behind connected, life-changing medical devices.

With 25+ years bringing devices to market across neurosurgery, oncology, orthopedics and diagnostics, including a system later acquired by a major medical-device company, they build active medical devices and also provide product development consulting, so the work stays varied and challenging. Current programs include a new generation of connected wearables.

You'll work hands-on across the full firmware lifecycle in an agile environment, alongside an experienced senior firmware engineer and the electrical engineering team. You'll build real, regulated products from concept through release, with room to grow fast.

Why you'll want this role

  • Real, hands-on work on devices that reach patients, not maintenance on legacy code.
  • The chance to learn fast, working directly alongside senior firmware and hardware engineers.
  • Variety, with a pipeline of different connected-device programs.
  • Genuine progression in a lean, fast-moving company.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and unit-test embedded firmware in C/C++ within an agile environment.
  • Work from schematics and support board bring-up and driver development with the EE team.
  • Build and integrate secure device communications (BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE-M).
  • Take firmware through verification, validation and the move to manufacturing.
  • Maintain documentation in line with the ISO 13485 / cGMP quality system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 2 to 3 years of embedded firmware development experience (not entry-level).
  • Strong C/C++.
  • JTAG board programming, plus board bring-up, driver development, and the ability to read schematics and work with an EE team.
  • Background in a regulated, paperwork-heavy industry a plus (medical, aerospace, defense, industrial or energy; open on sector).
  • Nice to have: FreeRTOS; ARM Cortex-M, Nordic or STM32; Python; wireless (BLE/Wi-Fi/LTE-M); OTA, secure boot, encryption; CI and version control.
  • Able to reliably commute to, or relocate to, Houston, TX 77045 before starting (required). Fully on-site.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Relocation support available for the right candidate
