Software Engineer - Boutique NYC Hedge Fund
Indexed description
A multi-strategy hedge fund is seeking a Software Developer to join a small, high-caliber technology team. The team is lean, operates with a low public profile, and holds itself to an unusually high standard. The people here came from serious places and are selective about who joins them.
About the Role
You will work directly with the desks and the teams around them, building and maintaining the systems the business depends on across the front, middle, and back office. The work spans real-time data infrastructure, trading and operational systems, and the tooling that keeps the investment process running day to day. Because the team is small, what you build matters immediately and the feedback is not filtered through layers of product management or business analysis. You will be expected to own your work end to end and exercise genuine judgment about how problems should be solved, not just execute against a specification someone else wrote
.
Technical Requirements
- Deep, production-level experience in C# or Python. We care about engineering ability, not a particular language – strong developers from either background will thrive here.
- Meaningful experience with Apache Kafka, specifically in high-throughput, low-latency production environments. Understanding of Kafka's internals and the tradeoffs involved in distributed messaging architecture is expected.
- Strong fundamentals across data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design. The complexity of the work requires engineers who understand what is happening beneath the abstraction layer.
- Comfort with the full development lifecycle – design, build, test, deploy, and support – and the discipline to do each well in a production environment.
- A track record of owning systems end to end and making sound architectural decisions without waiting to be told how.
