Lead Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to guide the design, development, and delivery of our internal business applications. In this role you will set technical direction for a small team, stay hands-on in the codebase, and partner with stakeholders across the organization to build reliable, maintainable software that helps our teams work more effectively. You will balance day-to-day engineering with mentorship and team leadership, ensuring the work is done well and the people doing it are growing.

What You'll Do

- Lead the architecture, design, and development of internal web applications from concept through production.

- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of software engineers, including conducting code reviews, guiding technical decisions, and helping team members grow their skills.

- Set and uphold engineering standards for code quality, testing, security, and documentation.

- Translate business requirements from stakeholders into clear technical plans and actionable work for the team.

- Own project planning and delivery, including estimating effort, prioritizing work, and keeping projects on track.

- Design and maintain relational data models and write efficient SQL that supports application performance and scale.

- Build and scale web applications, ensuring they remain performant and reliable as usage grows.

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack.

- Collaborate with product owners, other engineering teams, and business partners to align technical work with organizational goals.

Leadership Responsibilities

As a Lead, you will be directly responsible for the technical guidance and professional development of your team. This includes mentoring engineers, providing regular feedback, coordinating and reviewing their work, and helping to create a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

Qualifications

- 8–10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience leading or supervising other engineers.

- Proficiency in a major application development platform — **.NET or Java**.

- Strong relational database skills, including data modeling and SQL, with hands-on experience using relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL (experience with SQL Server is a plus).

- Proven experience building and scaling web applications.

- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and make sound architectural decisions.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferential Qualifications

- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.

- Experience building internal or line-of-business applications.

- Familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.

- Experience introducing or improving engineering processes on a team.
