Software Engineer I

Toast’s International UK team is looking for a Software Engineer I. This engineer will play a valuable role in developing best-in-class product experiences for Toast’s growing UK customer base. You will work closely with the Design, Product and Customer teams to build solutions that best serve our UK customers. As a member of the team, you will be surrounded by other talented engineers to learn from and level-up your skills, as well as learn new technologies leveraged across the Toast technology stack.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Design, build and deploy best-in-class product experiences that are used daily by our customers.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code across both backend and frontend applications.
• Collaborate across engineering, product and design to plan and execute on work.
• Take ownership of feature delivery, from design through implementation, testing, deployment and iteration.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• Proficient in Java, Kotlin or another object-oriented language, with an understanding of testing, quality & best practices.
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript technologies, such as React/Angular/Vue and TypeScript.
• Ability to embrace an agile mindset focused on delivering usable software.
• A passion for technology and continuous learning.
• Passionate about driving impact, through delivering meaningful software products, that our customers use everyday.

Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)

• Experience levering AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, and enhance productivity across the software development lifecycle.
• Familiarity building or integrating with GraphQL APIs.
• Familiarity with asynchronous communication tools (e.g., Pulsar, Kafka).
