Work Environment: To support collaboration and team engagement, this role requires working on-site at our downtown St. Petersburg, FL office Monday through Thursday, effective immediately. Fridays are designated as a work-from-home day, providing added flexibility!
Position Summary
Bankers Insurance Group is seeking a Software Engineer I to assist in developing, supporting, and maintaining enterprise applications that support our insurance operations.
This role is designed for an early-career software engineer with a solid technical foundation and a desire to learn modern application development, cloud technologies, enterprise integrations, and AI-enabled software development. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers while gradually taking ownership of applications and technical solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications under the guidance of senior engineers
• Support customer-facing and agent-facing web applications
• Assist with the development and maintenance of REST APIs and enterprise integrations
• Troubleshoot application issues and participate in production support activities
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions
• Develop and maintain technical documentation
• Learn and support cloud-based applications and enterprise integrations
• Collaborate with the AI team to help integrate AI capabilities into enterprise applications and business processes
• Continuously learn new technologies, development frameworks, and engineering best practices
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 0 to 2 years of software development experience or equivalent internship experience
• Working knowledge of C# and .NET
• Exposure to Java or Angular
• Understanding of REST APIs and web services
• Basic SQL Server or relational database development skills
• Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
• Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts
• Familiarity with AI concepts and AI-assisted software development tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Demonstrated willingness to learn new programming languages, frameworks, and technologies
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building web applications
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure
• Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Angular
• Exposure to SQL Server
• Experience integrating enterprise applications with Salesforce using APIs, web services, or middleware
• Familiarity with AI technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), or cloud AI platforms
• Interest in enterprise application integration and automation
• Property & Casualty insurance experience is a plus
