About The Role
The Computer Programmer I supports the development, maintenance, testing, and enhancement of software applications and systems supporting the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Center Operations contract. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining web-based applications, troubleshooting system issues, supporting data processing operations, and assisting with the implementation of system enhancements. The Computer Programmer I works closely with technical staff, business users, and Government stakeholders to support the continued operation, maintenance, and enhancement of EDI systems used for federal statistical programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Write programs to reformat BLS supplied data into formats compatible with BLS systems.
- Evaluate quotes for systems redesign.
- Develop, test, and implement new processing systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair system problems.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and user manuals for any systems developed in-house.
- Maintain the EDI intranet website.
- Two years of experience developing complex web-based applications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft .Net framework.
- Experience with writing applications in ASP.Net, VB.Net, and C#.
- Experience working with users in gathering requirements.
- Experience in system testing, including planning, executing, developing test data, and documenting the testing.
- Experience working with users to develop and execute acceptance testing.
- Familiarity with Oracle databases.
- Familiarity with managing release workflow by promoting code changes through development, staging, and production environments

- Work is performed remotely from a location within the Continental United States.
- Requires extended periods of sitting, computer use, and viewing electronic screens.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with team members, users, and stakeholders through virtual collaboration tools, email, and telephone.
- Must be able to maintain a secure and reliable internet connection to support telework requirements.
- Schedule adjustments may be required based on operational needs, system implementations, testing activities, or production support requirements.
- Salary Range: $58,000–$65,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
