About Us

We are Specto Medical, a medical software company building immersive visualization tools for medical imaging data. Our flagship product, Specto, lets surgeons and clinicians inspect CT and MRI scans in mixed or virtual reality, providing instant spatial understanding of patient anatomy. Our company purpose is to improve patient outcomes. Specto is FDA-cleared and CE-marked, and our eQMS is ISO 13485 certified.

Following a successful Series A, we are ramping up development of Specto 2, including Specto Cloud, a new platform that connects our clients to hospital imaging archiving systems (PACS), provides AI-enabled image analysis services and securely manage Specto surgical plans.

Job Description

We are looking for a senior backend developer to join our engineering team to design, operate and continuously improve the AI-enabled services behind Specto to deliver best-in-class, secure medical spatial computing for surgical planning. While you will work mainly in C# and ASP.NET Core, we value solid backend fundamentals more than in-depth experience with any specific technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain fail-safe backend services for Specto Cloud, our license server, and our relay infrastructure
  • Package, deploy and support our services in hospital environments
  • Integrate with hospital systems (PACS) and handle medical imaging data securely
  • Implement authentication, authorization, and encryption
  • Design databases, APIs, and portable cloud/on-prem infrastructure that scale reliably in a medical environment
  • Champion our quality and documentation standards and mentor others by example
  • Work within our eQMS (IEC 62304, ISO 13485/14971) for developing and secure operations of our services

Requirements

  • Proven excellence in backend software development using C#, ASP.NET Core, EF Core, and PostgreSQL following software engineering best practices
  • Strong foundations in API design, data modeling, and software architecture
  • Experience in secure DevOps, especially in configuring, deploying and running production services, including observability, alerting, and incident response
  • Solid understanding of authentication, encryption, and secure system design
  • Experience shipping and supporting software deployed in customer-controlled or on-premise environments (packaging, versioning, remote diagnostics)
  • Self-reliance and genuine interest in learning new technologies and domains
  • Proficient in written and spoken English
  • Existing working permit in the EU or Switzerland

Strong Pluses

  • Cybersecurity experience (threat modeling, penetration testing, security audits)
  • Experience with DICOM, PACS, FHIR, and other healthcare data standards
  • Familiarity with GDPR, HIPAA, and other data protection and medical regulatory frameworks
  • Experience working with hospital IT and clinical infrastructure

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, Swiss social security and pension benefits
  • Employee stock option plan
  • Primary workplace is Basel, Switzerland, with flexible working hours and home office arrangements
  • Build our cloud and on-premise platform from the ground up to deliver our bleeding-edge spatial computing technology into the operating room
  • The opportunity to build software with real clinical impact for surgeons and patients
