Senior Medical Director, Laboratory Medicine -Labcorp Central Laboratory (Shanghai)

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Medical Director (Laboratory Medicine) to join our Global Central Laboratory team in Shanghai. This is a strategic medical leadership role designed for a licensed laboratory physician (检验医师) who brings strong China regulatory expertise and is ready to operate in a global, cross-functional environment.
You will serve as the China medical authority for central laboratory services, providing scientific, regulatory, and medical oversight for clinical trial testing across immunology, genomics, and emerging biomarker platforms. You will collaborate closely with global medical directors, laboratory operations, quality teams, and pharmaceutical sponsors.
This role is ideal for a laboratory physician who wants to expand beyond routine hospital work and step into a global scientific leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
Medical & Scientific Leadership
- Provide medical consultation and interpretation for central laboratory services supporting global clinical trials.
- Review and approve method validation data and reports, especially in immunology, genomics, and biomarker assays.
- Offer scientific guidance on assay performance, deviations, and clinical interpretation.
- Support new test feasibility assessments and contribute to biomarker strategy.
Regulatory & Quality Oversight
- Advise global teams on China regulatory requirements, including NMPA, HGRR, ethics review, and data-localization rules.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with CAP, ISO 15189, and applicable China regulations.
- Serve as CAP Certificate Holder if required and support accreditation activities.
Cross-Functional & Sponsor Interaction
- Provide medical support to Laboratory Operations and Project Management teams.
- Participate in sponsor meetings, audits, inspections, and investigator discussions.
- Represent the company at scientific meetings and client presentations.
- Support business development activities by providing medical and scientific expertise.
Internal Scientific Development
- Contribute to the scientific growth of laboratory staff.
- Support development of reference ranges, test selection, and laboratory information systems.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laboratory medicine, biomarkers, and clinical trial requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD degree with full eligibility for medical licensure in China.
- Residency-trained laboratory physician (检验医学) with 5-10 years of post-training experience.
- Strong working knowledge of China regulatory frameworks (NMPA, HGRR, ethics, data governance).
- Solid foundation in QC/QA, method validation, and clinical interpretation.
- Strong English communication skills for global interaction and reporting lines.
- Ability to operate independently in a global matrix environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in private diagnostic laboratories or CROs.
- Exposure to ICH-GCP, FDA/EMA expectations, or global clinical trial workflows.
- Experience with immunology, genomics, or cell & gene therapy biomarkers.
- Prior sponsor-facing or cross-functional collaboration experience.
- Leadership experience or interest in scientific/medical strategy.
