Job Summary:

Joining the CleanGen Development team as a Senior Development Director is an opportunity to be an important senior member of a lean but fast-growing team that is working on a strategic and highly visible new business venture within a well-funded corporation. We are looking for a talented and energetic individual to lead multiple utility-scale gas-fired development projects across the US. The position would report to the Head of CleanGen Development and may directly manage the internal project development team.

The position will be responsible for overseeing the development team across the full suite of development activities for existing projects in the CleanGen portfolio and new projects (new greenfield sites and acquisition targets). This will include leading site identification and site control, interconnection and transmission work, project permitting, originating and managing power off-take arrangements, gas interconnection and transportation and community engagement. The position will work closely with our internal power marketing/origination, project finance, legal, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) teams to oversee development projects as they advance through a project's final notice to proceed to construction.

This position is designated as part-time telework under Bechtel's global policy and requires a minimum of three days per week in person at the assigned office or project. Weekly schedules will be determined in coordination with the supervisor and functional leadership.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and directly manage the development team to advance existing CleanGen projects from early-, mid-, and/or late-stage development to construction-ready status according to, and with accountability for, budget and schedule.
  • Participate in setting and implementing strategy to identify new development prospects and opportunities (greenfield sites and/or acquisition targets), including conducting market assessments, fatal flaw analyses, in-person site reconnaissance, and negotiating asset purchase and/or joint development agreements.
  • Originating and managing power off-take arrangements and natural gas interconnection and transport.
  • Share natural gas-fired project development knowledge/experience throughout the CleanGen development team (and broader Bechtel organization).
  • Interface with Bechtel senior management to discuss progress of CleanGen buildout, key project milestones, and financial requirements to continue to advance the CleanGen vision.
  • Put in place management tools, processes, and procedures required to operate and expand a nationwide renewable energy development portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with internal power marketing team, financial modeling team, and engineering/procurement/construction team.
  • As they arise, support international natural gas-fired opportunities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent), preferably in technical/engineering or business/finance related field, and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in utility-scale to include gas-fired project development.
  • Experience directly managing and growing a power/energy project development team.
  • Experience interfacing directly with senior management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience identifying and securing new prospects and opportunities (e.g., greenfield sites and acquisitions).
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Experience working directly with project engineering and EPC teams.
  • Experience in multiple U.S. markets such as ERCOT, MISO, PJM, and SPP.
  • Master's Degree or MBA is preferred.
