About the Role

The University of Lübeck is seeking a Physician or Data Science Researcher to join its Department of Neurology, focusing on neurovascular research. This position offers the opportunity to lead innovative research projects using real-world healthcare data, statistical modeling, and epidemiological methods to improve the understanding and treatment of neurological diseases such as stroke and other neurovascular conditions.

The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis with an initial three-year contract and the possibility of long-term employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct research projects using large-scale healthcare and routine clinical datasets.
  • Perform statistical analyses using data sources such as TriNetX, DESTATIS, health insurance databases, and clinical registries.
  • Conduct systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • Apply advanced causal inference methods to observational healthcare data.
  • Collaborate with national and international research partners.
  • Lead scientific studies from concept through publication.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and external research funding applications.
  • Participate in teaching and academic activities if desired.
  • Provide clinical patient care if applicable and desired.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree with licensure and experience in neurovascular or cardiovascular research, or a PhD in Data Science or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis methods for healthcare data.
  • Practical experience using statistical software such as R or SAS.
  • Experience working with real-world healthcare databases, including TriNetX, DESTATIS, or insurance claims data.
  • Knowledge of causal inference methods, including IPTW, Propensity Score Matching (PSM), and Target Trial Emulation.
  • Experience conducting meta-analyses is desirable.
  • Strong interest in medical research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Excellent German language skills (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or additional training in Epidemiology.
  • Board Certification in Neurology.
  • Experience in neurovascular clinical research.
  • Scientific publication record and grant-writing experience.
