About Taama

Taama is building the AI layer for compliance, legal, and CPG workflows — turning complex, regulation-heavy processes into fast, intelligent experiences. We are early, ambitious, and moving quickly.

The Role

This is not a typical engineering job. You will be one of the first technical hires, which means you will write production code every day and also shape how we build (the architecture, the tooling, the culture of craft). You will work directly with the founders on product decisions, and your fingerprints will be on everything Taama ships.

We are looking for someone who thrives in the unknown: who can pick up a fuzzy problem, make it concrete, and ship something real before the week is out.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full stack - frontend, backend, infrastructure, and the glue in between
  • Work closely with founders to translate complex workflows (compliance, legal, CPG) into clean, intuitive product experiences
  • Integrate and orchestrate AI models, agents, and pipelines into production systems
  • Lay the engineering foundations: patterns, documentation, CI/CD, code standards - built to scale, not just to survive
  • Move fast and make considered trade-offs, know when to cut corners and when to build it right
  • Be an active voice on product direction, not just a feature executor
  • Contribute beyond code when needed - demos, customer calls, whatever it takes at this stage

Who You Are

  • You have built things at early-stage startups (ideally before product-market fit), where speed and judgment mattered equally
  • You are comfortable not knowing the answer and figuring it out anyway
  • You have strong product instincts: you can tell a good UX from a bad one and you push for the former
  • You write clean, pragmatic code and you know the difference between over-engineering and under-engineering
  • You are AI-native: you use AI tools daily, you understand their limits, and you build with them thoughtfully
  • You can hold complexity in your head and present simplicity to users
  • You are based in Asia and available to work with a distributed team across geographies

Stack & Skills

We care more about your judgment than your stack, but here is the playground:

  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS - modern SPA - pixel-precise when it matters
  • Backend: Python, REST API, containerised workloads
  • AI/ML: LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI etc.), advanced RAG (hybrid retrieval, query expansion, reranking), agent frameworks & multi-agent orchestration with tool calling, knowledge graph construction
  • Infra: AWS or GCP, Postgres, Redis, CI/CD pipelines, observability basics
  • Mindset: documentation-first, test where it matters, ship and iterate

Nice to Have

  • Experience in compliance, legal tech, or CPG (or genuine curiosity about regulated industries!)
  • Prior experience as a founding engineer or very early hire
  • You have built internal tools or workflows that replaced manual, high-stakes processes
  • Familiarity with document understanding, structured extraction, or workflow automation

What We Offer

  • A seat at the table - you will shape the product, the culture, and the company
  • Competitive compensation + equity at an early stage
  • Full autonomy and accountability
  • A team that respects craft and moves fast without drama
  • The chance to build something genuinely new in a space ripe for disruption

Sound like you?

We do not need a perfect CV. We need someone who has shipped, who has broken things and fixed them, and who is excited about what AI can do in industries that have barely changed in decades!
