Lead AI Engineer

Liverpool (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

We're looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to join an established organisation in the financial services and insurance sector that's transforming the way AI is used across the business. This is a technical leadership role focused on driving AI delivery and innovation, not people management.

You'll become the technical authority within a growing AI team, helping to define platform strategy, build scalable AI solutions, and mentor engineers while remaining close to the technology.

As their Lead AI Engineer you'll:

• Lead the technical direction of AI initiatives across the business.
• Design, build and deploy production AI solutions.
• Develop AI capabilities that support a next-generation claims platform.
• Work on AI-driven claims automation and intelligent business workflows.
• Build and integrate Conversational AI, LLMs, RAG and Agentic AI solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams and business stakeholders to solve real-world operational challenges.
• Coach and support fellow engineers through technical leadership and best practice.
• Help evolve the organisation from low-code AI solutions to scalable engineering-led platforms.

Key Requirements:

• Strong AI Engineering experience with Python
• Experience using Azure (preferred) or AWS with strong cloud fundamentals
• API integration
• Strong hands on AI experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Conversational AI and Agentic AI
• Experience with DevOps - Kubernetes / AKS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines
• Infrastructure upgrades and production support
• Strong software engineering background, preferably within .NET / C#, React and SQL Server is desired

This role would suit an experienced Senior AI Engineer, Lead Engineer or Technical Lead who enjoys remaining hands-on while providing technical guidance to others.
