Lead Software Engineer

We’re seeking a senior software engineer who’s comfortable working across the full application stack and ready to tackle some of the most important challenges in today’s software engineering.

This role will place you at the intersection of:

• Full-stack product engineering
• Generative AI and large language models
• AI agents and autonomous workflows
• Cloud-native architecture
• Enterprise technology consulting

You’ll design, build, deploy, and improve applications for complex Australian organisations. Your work will cover everything from modern user interfaces and backend services to AI orchestration, cloud infrastructure, security, observability, and ensuring systems are production-ready.

The Generative AI market is full of proofs of concept. This role focuses on what comes next: engineering AI-enabled applications that are secure, scalable, observable, and useful in production.

What you’ll be responsible for...

• Design, build, and launch production-ready, cloud-native applications across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, making a real impact.
• Develop responsive interfaces with React, Next.js, Angular, or Vue, alongside APIs, microservices, and data services using Python, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, or .NET.
• Bring Generative AI and large language models into real enterprise applications, not just short-term proofs of concept, so your work delivers real value.
• Design AI agents, agent workflows and multi-agent systems using RAG, vector databases, embeddings, orchestration frameworks and managed cloud AI services.
• Explore emerging agentic technologies and interoperability standards, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) and agent-to-agent (A2A) patterns.
• Use AI-powered development tools to speed up coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and code reviews, all while keeping high engineering standards.
• Design secure, scalable, and resilient cloud architectures using Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• Implement CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, or managed container platforms, and add monitoring and observability using OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Turn complex business needs into practical software architecture, and clearly explain your technical decisions and trade-offs to stakeholders to keep business value front and centre.
• Lead code and architecture reviews, mentor other engineers, and set standards for security, reliability, maintainability, and operational readiness to help the team do its best work.

What you’ll bring to the role...

• Your proven success in building complex, large-scale, full-stack applications across frontend and backend technologies, delivering strong outcomes
• Your experience with modern programming languages (e.g. TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, Kotlin, .NET)
• Your cloud-native background in designing and implementing solutions using AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or a comparable platform
• Your practical examples of APIs, microservices, distributed systems and modern application architecture
• Your recent experience in engineering applications that incorporate LLMs or Generative AI capabilities
• Your knowledge of managed AI services (e.g. Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Vertex AI)
• Your understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, embeddings and prompt engineering
• Model Context Protocol, agent-to-agent protocols or emerging agent interoperability standards
