Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced AI Software Engineering Team Lead to drive the design, development, and delivery of next-generation AI-powered applications. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team mentorship, focusing on large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), intelligent agents, semantic search, and modern software engineering best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in application development, AI system integration, data architecture, and leading engineering teams through complex technical initiatives.

As a key technical leader, you will partner with stakeholders, architects, and development teams to translate business challenges into scalable AI-driven solutions while establishing standards for AI development, model evaluation, security, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of AI-powered applications, including LLM-based solutions, RAG pipelines, intelligent agents, and workflow automation platforms.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for software development issues within the team and provide technical guidance for complex engineering challenges.
• Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to gather requirements and translate business problems into effective AI-driven solutions.
• Design and review detailed technical specifications, architecture documents, and system components for moderate to high-complexity applications.
• Establish engineering best practices for prompt engineering, model evaluation, AI governance, and secure implementation of AI systems.
• Oversee development and optimization of data pipelines supporting AI applications, including document ingestion, embedding generation, indexing, retrieval, and vector search.
• Mentor and develop software engineers on AI/LLM development methodologies, software architecture, system integration, and engineering best practices.
• Design and implement agent-based systems utilizing tool orchestration, multi-step reasoning workflows, API integrations, and autonomous decision-making capabilities.
• Evaluate AI system performance through testing frameworks, monitoring solutions, hallucination mitigation strategies, and ongoing optimization efforts.
• Collaborate with internal and external technology partners to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable AI solutions.
• Drive adoption of emerging AI technologies, foundation models, frameworks, and best practices across the engineering organization.
• Ensure high-quality software delivery through code reviews, technical leadership, and adherence to development standards.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 2+ years of experience developing, integrating, or supporting AI/ML-driven applications, including LLM-powered systems, recommendation engines, intelligent automation solutions, or search platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Experience leading technical teams and coordinating development efforts across multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to lead internal and external technology resources in solving complex business challenges.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Technical Requirements

• Experience developing AI-enabled applications utilizing LLMs, prompt engineering techniques, and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, Google ADK, OpenAI SDK, Anthropic SDK, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures, including document ingestion, embedding pipelines, vector indexing, retrieval optimization, and knowledge grounding techniques.
• Experience building intelligent agent systems with tool integration, workflow orchestration, multi-step reasoning, and API connectivity.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience leveraging Python for AI/ML and data-intensive workflows.
• Expertise with modern development languages and technologies including Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C/C++, HTML, XML, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, data modeling principles, normalization, dimensional modeling, and query optimization techniques.
• Experience designing and working with complex enterprise data models and multiple data storage technologies.
• Knowledge of vector databases and semantic search platforms such as Qdrant, Elasticsearch, Solr, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar technologies.
• Experience monitoring and evaluating AI systems, including model performance assessment, hallucination mitigation, benchmarking, observability, and quality assurance frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud-native application architectures and modern software engineering best practices.
• Ability to write, review, and maintain detailed technical specifications and architecture documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading AI engineering teams in enterprise-scale environments.
• Experience with cloud AI services across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of MLOps, AI observability, model lifecycle management, and deployment automation.
• Familiarity with fine-tuning, model evaluation frameworks, and open-source foundation models.
• Experience building search, recommendation, conversational AI, or knowledge management platforms.
• Understanding of responsible AI principles, governance, security, and compliance requirements.
