The Role: Technical Advisor – Reservoir EngineerAs a Reservoir Engineer – Applied AI & Analytics, the role intersects petroleum engineering and cutting-edge data science, not as a software developer, but as the technical expert who deploys and applies the latest AI and analytics tools to answer the critical business questions that drive unconventional oil & gas operations. You will work side-by-side with engineers and decision-makers at some of the largest unconventional operators in Lower 48, helping them leverage Novi’s AI-driven platform to drive better development decisions, optimize capital programs, and unlock the full value of their data. This is a client-facing technical role where you will:
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to leading operators and investors.
- Guide clients in using Novi’s AI-driven tools to improve development planning, reserves assessment, and production optimization.
- Drive adoption of Novi’s data platforms by delivering insights that influence high-stakes capital allocation decisions.
- Collaborate across internal teams (engineering, data science, sales, product) to continually enhance both client outcomes and Novi’s offerings.
This role is ideal for a reservoir or production engineer looking to grow into the next generation of energy analytics, blending petroleum expertise with applied AI.
Key Responsibilities:- Technical LeadershipAdvise clients on integrating Novi’s data solutions into their workflows to improve productivity, reduce costs, and guide strategic decisions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve client challenges, coordinating with engineering and product teams to ensure rapid and effective solutions.
- Act as a domain expert in unconventional resources, helping clients translate raw data into actionable reservoir insights.
- Client Success & Strategic PartnershipDeliver high-impact training workshops, product deep-dives, and technical enablement sessions.
- Develop tailored account strategies to expand adoption and ensure measurable business value.
- Build strong relationships with engineers, managers, and executives across client organizations.
- Become a trusted customer advisor through on-site engagements with customers.
- Innovation & Product FeedbackShare client insights and workflow needs with Novi’s product team to drive innovation.
- Communicate platform enhancements, new use cases, and measurable outcomes to clients.
- Stay current on oil & gas trends, data sources, and technologies to help shape best practices in digital reservoir engineering.
Requirements:
- Located in Midland, TX
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 2 year of experience in Unconventional Resources as a Reservoir, Production, Completions, or Geoscience professional. We welcome strong early-career engineers who have demonstrated data science or analytics skills through personal projects, coursework, or work outside their primary role.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization.
- Proven experience building analytical datasets and working with time-series production and completion data.
- Strong skills in manipulating and joining large datasets (e.g., public & proprietary data, state databases).
- Experience with third-party data sources (e.g., Novi, Enverus, IHS, WoodMac).
- Hands-on experience with oil & gas software (e.g., Novi, Spotfire, ARIES, ArcGIS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of “big data” practices for analytics and workflow automation.
- Exposure to ML frameworks applied to production or completion data (e.g., Random Forest, Causal Inference, or similar).
- Curiosity and self-driven learning in data science, ML, or AI demonstrated through courses, personal projects, or published work.
- Experience with REST APIs and ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services.

Travel & Location:
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for client workshops, strategic engagements, and project kickoffs.
- This is an on-site role based in Midland, TX. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Midland/Odessa area.
