Portfolio Architect

We are now in a pivotal phase of our product evolution — deeply embedding AI and machine learning across the platform to deliver smarter, faster, and more autonomous financial workflows. This role sits at the heart of that transformation.

As Portfolio Architect you will own the end-to-end architectural vision for Basware’s product portfolio. You will bridge product strategy, engineering delivery, data and AI innovation — ensuring that our platform evolves coherently, scalably, and with AI-first thinking embedded from the ground up.

You will report into senior technology leadership and work in close partnership with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to set technical direction, govern architectural standards, and accelerate the adoption of LLMs, agentic systems, and ML pipelines across the portfolio.

What You'll Do

Architecture Leadership

• Define and evolve the portfolio-level technical architecture across Basware’s product suite, ensuring coherence, scalability, and strategic alignment
• Set architectural review processes for AI and set engineering standards that span teams and products
• Identify architectural risk, technical debt, and opportunities for platform consolidation.

• Lead architectural decisions across LLMs, agentic workflows, vector stores, RAG pipelines, and ML inference infrastructure
• Define the approach for integrating AI capabilities into core product flows — from document intelligence to autonomous process automation
• Evaluate and select AI tooling and frameworks; build the internal knowledge base around responsible experimentation and production readiness.

• Own the MLOps architecture: model training pipelines, versioning, deployment, monitoring, and continuous evaluation
• Establish AI governance frameworks covering model quality, explainability, bias detection, data privacy, and regulatory compliance
• Drive standardised approaches to model lifecycle management across product teams.

• Act as a trusted technical advisor to product leadership, translating architecture decisions into roadmap impact
• Represent Basware’s technical direction in customer-facing conversations, analyst briefings, and partnership discussions
• Mentor and elevate engineering talent across the organisation; establish communities of practice around architecture and AI.

Essential

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a Solution, Portfolio or Principal Architect at a $300M+ ARR SaaS company
• Hands-on expertise in AI/ML engineering — specifically in one or more of: LLMs, agentic systems, vector stores, RAG architectures, and ML pipelines
• Practical experience with MLOps tooling and practices (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, Vertex AI, or equivalent)
• Demonstrable understanding of AI governance, responsible AI principles, and regulatory considerations (e.g. EU AI Act awareness)
• Strong track record of defining and communicating architectural vision to diverse audiences — engineers, executives, and customers
• Deep cloud-native architecture experience on AWS or Azure
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; able to produce crisp, persuasive technical narratives

• Domain experience in fintech, accounts payable automation, procurement, or enterprise financial workflows
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture at enterprise scale
• Background in enterprise integration patterns, event-driven architectures, and API-first design
• Prior experience contributing to or leading architectural governance bodies (e.g. Tech Council, Architecture Review Board)

This is a remote-first role. We are open to candidates based anywhere in Europe or on the US East Coast (broadly UTC−5 to UTC+2). You should expect to travel to key Basware hubs a few times per year for planning cycles, offsites, and customer engagements.
