As a Staff AI Engineer, you won't just build these systems. You'll define the technical direction they follow. This role owns architecture decisions with company-wide impact, sets standards other engineers build against, and mentors the team as we scale our AI infrastructure across five new markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture of multi-agent AI workflows, including orchestration, memory, and state management, and set the design standards other engineers build against.
• Drive the GraphRAG strategy end-to-end: connecting structured and unstructured knowledge sources to push retrieval quality beyond standard vector search, and deciding where GraphRAG investment pays off versus where it doesn't.
• Set model strategy across the AI org, deciding which tasks warrant fine-tuning versus off-the-shelf models, and how we balance latency, cost, and performance at scale.
• Architect data infrastructure for indexing and querying legal document collections at scale (Qdrant, Milvus), with an eye toward what breaks at 10x volume.
• Define evaluation pipelines and monitoring standards for high-stakes AI outputs, and hold the broader team accountable to them.
• Act as a technical anchor for the AI team, leading architecture reviews, raising the bar on code quality, and mentoring senior and mid-level engineers.
• Partner directly with leadership on build-vs-buy calls and multi-quarter technical roadmap decisions.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of engineering experience building AI/ML systems in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with agentic systems and frameworks such as LangGraph.
• Proficiency with vector databases (Qdrant, Milvus) and data engineering fundamentals including pipeline design and schema management.
• Solid understanding of retrieval quality concepts: chunking strategies, embedding pipelines, and RAG architectures.
• Strong Python engineering skills with a focus on building reliable, scalable systems.
• Experience with GraphRAG concepts is a plus.
• Familiarity with multilingual NLP, vLLM optimization, or observability tools such as Langfuse or Arize is a plus.
