AI Tech Lead

At FlowTribe, we are looking for an AI Lead to own the direction of AI across our products and our organization!

About us

FlowTribe is a dynamic scale-up based in the heart of Antwerp, Belgium. We build and market software products that automate time-consuming tasks for accountants, lawyers and entrepreneurs. We’re at scale (our customers include 100s of accounting and legal firms, and we reach 100,000s of entrepreneurs), we continue to grow rapidly, and we’ve been part of Visma Group since January 2025, opening doors to even more growth opportunities and resources.

The role

As AI Lead, you own what we build with AI, how we build it, and how the whole organization levels up around it. This is a hands-on leadership role. In a typical week you might be:

• Shaping AI features at the product level with the CEO and the engineering team: translating ideas into concrete plans, and being the quality and direction check on proposals.
• Maturing and standardizing the data foundation that AI work depends on: improving data hygiene and shaping a coherent data layer across our products and systems.
• Experimenting hands-on with AI in our internal processes, on both the technical and the business side, and turning the experiments that work into standards.
• Making the strategic AI calls: which tools, which bets, build vs buy tradeoffs.
• Working with support, product, sales and operations to find where AI genuinely improves how the company runs.

You’ll work directly with the CEO, CTO and Head of Product, with no bureaucracy and a bias towards shipping.

What we’re looking for

• A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience developing AI applications and at least 1 year leading and managing AI teams — but you must stay hands-on when the work needs it.
• You have shipped AI/LLM products to production, including the unglamorous parts: messy data work, evaluation, iteration. Alternatively, in exceptional cases: you’re an exceptional engineer with a clear, demonstrated pull toward AI.
• You use the right tool for the right job and can defend the trade-offs concretely. Hand-waving is the failure mode we’re screening against.
• You have a strategy brain: you keep up with the AI space, constantly (almost compulsively) think about how it applies to our product and processes, and think long-term about how AI can shape an organization, not just the next feature.
• You’re organization-minded and genuinely collaborative: able to meet the whole company where it is and improve from there, with excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
• A passion for building and inspiring high-performing teams.

Domain experience in accounting, legal, or compliance is not required. Openness to learn the domain is.

What this role is not

• Not a theoretical, managerial, or pure-strategy seat. You don’t steer from a distance. You get into the weeds and prove that something works, or doesn’t, by experimenting and verifying it yourself.
• Not a pure development role either. If coding is your main thing, that’s fine, but you should be willing to grow into the product, process, and strategy sides of the job.
