ABOUT AXILES BIONICS

Axiles Bionics is a Brussels-based spin-off from Brubotics (VUB), specializing in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Biomechanics, striving to improve the quality of life with new bionic technologies. Our mission is to bring peace of mind and body to amputees with innovative bionic solutions and outstanding services.

While our roots are in managing and delivering innovative R&D projects, we are progressively expanding our activities across sales, marketing, and operations. Our ambition is to grow responsibly, build strong foundations, and create long-term impact, both for our projects and for the people who contribute to them.

If you are an engineer who loves bridging the gap between advanced machine learning and real-time physical execution, keep reading.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Do you want to see your AI models run on real-world hardware that transforms lives?

As our Software AI Engineer, you will act as the primary architect of our bionics solutions, bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI and real-time hardware execution. Reporting directly to the CTO within our Research & Development team, you will design, train, and embed adaptive AI and Reinforcement Learning policies directly into our prosthetic devices. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where your software frameworks move straight from simulation into the hands of prosthetists and patients, directly enhancing their independence and quality of life globally.

As a key member of the Research & Development team reporting to the CTO, you will collaborate closely with mechanical, electronics, and quality assurance engineers to bridge the gap between advanced machine learning and real-time hardware execution.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Conduct data analysis in order to drive the development of ML models

• Design ML models to be embedded into prosthetic devices

• Develop the infrastructure for end to end AI model development

• Develop software tools needed for the AI development

• Work closely with embedded engineers to make sure you solutions can be embedded in our prosthetic devices

• Write the embedded software required to run the AI models on-device

• Participate in planning and project management tasks.

WHAT YOU BRING

• You hold a Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Robotics, related fields or equivalent experience.

• You have 4 years of professional experience working as an ML/Software Engineer in a similar industry or projects.

• You have experience working with sensor data, ideally inertial sensors.

• You are capable of writing highly maintainable, testable, and robust code.

• Some experience in applying reinforcement learning techniques and in embedded systems development are a plus.

• You are a complex problem solver who thrives when working autonomously, running sprints, and tackling complex challenges.

• You enjoy working in a multidisciplinary environment with people who challenge your ideas, and you expect to do the same for them.
