PURPOSE OF POSITION
The AI Solutions Delivery Lead serves as the technical leader within the AI Strategy & Adoption group, responsible for AI capability research, strategy, light delivery (proofs-of-concept and lightweight integrations), and vendor partnership coordination for substantive AI implementations. This role works in close coordination with the Digital Workplace Learning & Adoption Manager who handles the agency-wide AI fluency and adoption scope. Together the two roles form the AI Strategy & Adoption group’s leadership, reporting directly to the CIO.
Essential Functions
AI Research and Strategy (35%)
- Track emerging AI capabilities, vendor offerings, and best practices relevant to the agency’s mission.
- Evaluate AI platforms, tools, and services for agency use — including LLM platforms, AI coding tools, document automation, and data analysis capabilities.
- Develop and maintain the agency’s AI strategy in coordination with the CIO.
- Advise the CIO and agency leadership on AI opportunities, risks, and investment priorities.
- Execute hands-on delivery of lightweight AI integrations, proofs-of-concept, and pilot projects.
- Build and demonstrate AI-powered tools for agency use cases (document automation, data query assistance, reporting automation, workflow optimization).
- Coordinate with Tech Delivery teams when AI work intersects with application delivery.
- Evaluate and validate AI solutions before broader deployment.
- Coordinate with external vendors and partners for substantive AI implementations that exceed light delivery scope.
- Manage vendor evaluation, SOW development, and engagement oversight for AI-related procurements.
- Serve as internal subject-matter expert on AI vendor landscape and procurement considerations.
- Support the CIO in AI governance and policy — including AI acceptable use policy operationalization, vendor evaluation standards, and alignment with state and federal guidance.
- Coordinate with the Digital Workplace Learning & Adoption Manager on agency-facing AI communication, training content, and adoption program substance.
- Participate in AI tool standardization and AI champions network activities.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology. Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in technology roles with demonstrated AI/ML exposure.
- Strong awareness of current AI capabilities across major platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google) and vendor offerings.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools and platforms — comfortable building proofs-of-concept, evaluating AI solutions, and doing prompt engineering work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and agency leadership.
- Experience with applied AI/ML in production or near-production settings (RAG systems, document automation, AI-assisted workflows).
- Experience coordinating AI vendor engagements or managing AI-related procurements.
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, and data privacy considerations (FERPA).
- Experience in state government, K–12 education or similarly regulated environments.
- Experience with Python, Azure AI services, or modern AI development tooling.
- Graduate degree in a relevant field.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- On-call availability may be required for mission-critical system incidents.
