Algorithms Software Engineer
Indexed description
A Senior Algorithms Software role inside a growing Sydney Medtech firm. The role takes detection and classification algorithms from research and prototype design through to deployment in C++ within clinical-grade software, working closely with ML/AI, signal processing, embedded, and clinical teams.
The candidates we have placed into roles like this share a common profile: comfortable with modern C++, fluent in Python for prototyping and analysis, deep enough in DSP to translate algorithmic models into resource-constrained production code, and disciplined about the testing and validation standards medical-device software demands.
Interview Process
Three stages: technical conversation with engineering leadership, deep-dive panel covering algorithm design and C++ deployment patterns, and a final conversation with the founding / clinical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Take medical-imaging detection and classification algorithms from design to production using modern C++.
- Develop and maintain simulation software used to assist algorithm development and validation.
- Design and implement data analysis and algorithm-evaluation pipelines.
- Conduct unit testing to ensure software quality and reliability across the imaging pipeline.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support medical-device software.
- Support software and hardware engineering teams in informed decisions on deployed-system design.
- Advance software-architecture design processes within the team - reliability and performance on resource-constrained medical-device targets.
- Work closely with ML/AI, signal processing, embedded systems, clinical and regulatory teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Computer Science, Electrical / Biomedical Engineering or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of software development experience - Python and C++ preferred.
- Ability to turn complex algorithms and mathematical models into high-performance software operating on sensor/imaging data.
- Strong working knowledge of modern architectural and software-design patterns.
- Comfortable working in Linux environments.
- Confident in communicating with engineers from non-software / data-science backgrounds.
- At least one compiled language (C++, Go or C).
- At least one scripting language (Python, JavaScript or Shell).
- Solid foundation in Digital Signal Processing concepts and techniques.
- Experience with Embedded Linux platforms.
- Test-driven development and revision control as everyday habits.
Bonus
- Exposure to SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) or IEC 62304 compliant development.
- Prior experience deploying ML/AI models into clinical or regulated environments.
- Continuous Integration pipeline design for medical-device software.
