Head of Engineering

A hands-on player-coach role: lead a human + AI-agent engineering team, stay in the code, ship fabulous product. Sydney-based, global team, real equity.

WHO WE ARE

Enterprise AI is a Sydney startup helping organisations put AI to work — properly. We're a small, sharp team across Sydney, Manila and New York, and we build the way we tell our clients to: AI agents do a large share of the engineering work, and humans direct, review and ship.

THE ROLE

The role You'll own how we build — as a player-coach, not a people-manager-only. You'll code with AI every week, know our architecture cold, and stay close enough to the codebase to review anyone's work. And you'll run a hybrid team of engineers and AI agents, judged on one thing: fabulous product, out the door, fast.

YOU WILL

• Stay hands-on — build with AI coding agents yourself, know the architecture and the code, and never lose touch with how the product actually works
• Talk with your team daily — across Sydney, Manila and New York — to understand what everyone is building, unblock them, and connect the pieces
• Continuously improve our engineering processes — code quality, deployments, product functionality, agent orchestration, code review, evals, CI/CD, and quality gates that let a small team ship like a big one
• Lead, motivate and grow the team — coaching, celebrating, and raising the bar
• Set technical direction and architecture for our enterprise AI products
• Ship four times a week — and make shipping feel great for the team
• Work directly with the founder on product strategy and key client engagements

YOU

• 8–15 years in software engineering, with real startup experience — you have shipped under constraints and worn many hats
• Still coding, and proud of it — you review PRs, dive into the architecture, and would never lead from a slide deck
• Already working with AI agents doing substantial engineering work, such as Claude Code, Cursor or custom agent pipelines — and you have opinions about their failure modes
• You have led a team and loved the leading part — but you lead from inside the codebase, not above it
• Strong product instinct — you argue about what to build, not just how to build it
• Comfortable leading across time zones; based in Sydney and happy working mostly in-person with the Sydney team

WHAT WE OFFER

• A$220–260k base + superannuation
• Meaningful equity: 1%+, 4-year vesting — this is a partner-level role, and the package reflects it
