The UTS Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute (AAII) in the School of Computer Science is one of Australia's leading artificial intelligence research centres, bringing together world-class researchers, industry partners, and government organisations to advance the development and application of AI. AAII conducts cutting-edge research across machine learning, data science, computer vision, responsible AI, and intelligent decision-making systems, delivering innovative solutions to complex real-world challenges and shaping the future of AI in Australia and beyond.


About the role


We are recruiting for a Professor to join the team on a continuing contract in an initially research-intensive position. The role will be research intensive for the first two years, with a strong focus on advancing foundational theories and developing novel methodologies across core areas of artificial intelligence and contributing to both the scientific foundations and practical capabilities of modern AI.


This position will play a key role in driving cutting‑edge research across the broader field of artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis - though not limited to - agentic AI, multi‑modal large language models (LLMs), LLM‑powered decision‑making, and advanced computer vision.


About you


As the Professor, you will be an experienced leader with comprehensive knowledge in Artificial Intelligence and related research fields. Other requirements will include:


  • A PhD Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a very closely related field
  • High scholarly standing through distinguished international contributions to Artificial Intelligence related research
  • Ability to initiate and manage innovative research development projects in Artificial Intelligence and related applications and systems
  • Experience in delivering high quality results for government funded discovery projects (equivalent to ARC Discovery Projects) as a contributor
  • Ability to develop competitive grant proposals or industry links and projects
  • Ability to mentor and co-supervise undergraduate, honours, Masters or high degree research (HDR) students and postdocs

Remuneration & Benefits


Base Salary: $231,602 p.a. (Level E)


This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.


This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
