About The Opportunity

As Foundation for Puerto Rico continues to explore the role of emerging technologies in advancing Puerto Rico's development, we are seeking AI Fellows to contribute their expertise to initiatives with meaningful social and economic impact.

We are looking for individuals who already possess knowledge and practical experience with artificial intelligence and who are interested in applying those capabilities to real-world challenges facing Puerto Rico.

AI Fellows will serve as thought partners, contributors, and innovators within the Foundation Fellows Program, helping FPR identify opportunities, generate ideas, and explore practical applications of AI across our work.

Fellowship Duration

• 12-month fellowship appointment
• Opportunities to collaborate across multiple Foundation initiatives throughout the fellowship period

What You'll Do

As an AI Fellow, you may:

• Explore practical applications of AI across Foundation initiatives.
• Identify opportunities where AI can generate public value.
• Contribute to the development of concepts, pilots, and strategic recommendations.
• Support teams in integrating AI tools and workflows effectively and responsibly.
• Conduct research on emerging AI trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
• Help translate technological possibilities into actionable solutions for Puerto Rico.

Projects may span areas such as workforce development, education, nonprofit innovation, economic development, community resilience, visitor economy, and public sector transformation.

We welcome applicants with demonstrated experience, knowledge, or active engagement in one or more of the following areas:

• Generative AI tools and applications
• Prompt engineering
• AI strategy and implementation
• Machine learning concepts
• Data analysis and AI-enabled decision-making
• Workflow automation and optimization
• AI experimentation and solution development
• Responsible and ethical AI practices
• Emerging technologies and innovation

Learning & Development Experience

As members of the Foundation Fellows Program, AI Fellows participate in a rich learning ecosystem designed to strengthen leadership, broaden perspectives, and deepen their understanding of Puerto Rico's opportunities and challenges.

This includes:

• Fellows Learning Labs: Interactive sessions featuring Foundation leaders, external experts, and peer-led discussions on topics such as leadership, innovation, economic development, systems thinking, and emerging trends shaping Puerto Rico's future.
• Mentorship: Access to mentors across the organization who provide context, guidance, feedback, and connections that support both professional growth and meaningful contribution.
• Cross-Sector Exposure: Opportunities to engage with leaders and collaborators from government, nonprofits, academia, philanthropy, and the private sector.
• Peer Learning: Participation in a community of Fellows where knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and mutual support are encouraged.

At Foundation for Puerto Rico, mentoring is not hierarchical, it is collaborative. Fellows learn from experienced professionals, from one another, and through active participation in real initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits

AI Fellows receive:

• Annual stipend
• 50% employer contribution toward the Foundation's medical plan
• Eligibility to participate in the Foundation's retirement plan (without employer matching contribution)
• Paid organizational holidays observed by Foundation for Puerto Rico
