Platform Engineer

Job Summary

You build the foundation that delivery teams depend on, provisioned environments, reliable pipelines, and automated workflows that make shipping faster and more consistent. This is a hands-on role with real ownership over what you build, in a team that values doing things right over doing things fast.

Key Responsibilities

1) Assigned Environment Provisioning

Responsible for provisioning infrastructure environments for assigned projects in accordance with documented architecture designs and IaC standards. Environments that deviate from approved designs, or built outside IaC without documented justification, are an accountability of this role.

2) CI/CD Pipeline Setup

• Responsible for setting up CI/CD pipelines for assigned projects in accordance with platform pipeline standards, enabling project teams to build, test, and deploy reliably. Pipelines that do not meet defined standards at handover are an accountability of this role.

3) Delivery Automation

• Responsible for implementing delivery automation within assigned scope, pipeline triggers, provisioning scripts, and IaC modules that reduce manual effort and enable faster, more consistent delivery. Manual processes within assigned scope that have viable automation alternatives are a gap this role is expected to raise.

4) Delivery Team Technical Coordination

• Responsible for managing day-to-day technical coordination with assigned delivery teams, responding to platform-related queries, tracking open items, and escalating blockers to the Senior Platform Engineer with sufficient lead time. Late escalation that causes delivery delays is an accountability of this role.

5) Project Onboarding Support

• Responsible for executing project onboarding activities for assigned projects in accordance with the platform onboarding process, completing intake documentation, validating infrastructure requirements, and confirming readiness checkpoints before delivery begins.

6) Monitoring Readiness at Handover

• Responsible for ensuring assigned provisioned environments are handed over to Platform Operations with observability hooks, alerting configuration, and logging set up correctly. Handover without documented monitoring readiness is incomplete.

7) Architecture Handover Adherence

• Responsible for ensuring provisioning for assigned projects does not commence without a completed architecture design handover. Proceeding without architecture clearance is not acceptable and must be escalated immediately.

8) Environment Documentation

• Responsible for maintaining accurate and current documentation for all assigned provisioned environments configuration records, IaC references, and handover records. Undocumented or outdated environments are an open accountability item for this role.

Skills and Qualifications

Must-Have

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering role.
• Hands-on experience provisioning and managing infrastructure across cloud (AWS) and on-premises environments.
• Working knowledge of IaC tooling (Terraform or Ansible).
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines.
• Good coordination and communication skills, able to manage delivery team relationships and track concurrent delivery items.
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker Swarm or equivalent).

Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to fintech or regulated industry environments.
• AWS Cloud Practitioner or Associate level certification.
