Role Overview
Serves as our client's technical expert in Platform Operations Engineering, providing daily authoritative advice in support of the engineering design process. This role sits on the Enterprise Data Services team with a heavy emphasis on managing the Power Platform servers and gateways tied to Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate. We need someone who takes initiative, identifies improvements, and actively builds plans that address the full environment, from architecture and processes to notifications and precautionary steps, to keep the entire Power Platform ecosystem stable and positioned for continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the health, stability, and growth planning of the Power Platform ecosystem (Power BI, Apps, Automate), including servers and gateways.
- Analyze performance of components and systems with peers to troubleshoot, evaluate performance, and determine capacity.
- Use root cause analysis, corrective actions, and tactical and strategic planning to correct problems, improve response times and methods, and lead long-term investment plans for IT services to the business.
- Act as coordinator to ensure infrastructure stays in compliance with configurations, patches, and approved designs.
- Serve as an active participant, leader, and owner in the change management process, executing change with minimum impact and improving and automating change processes.
- Provide Tier 3 expert support to IT peers on a 24x7 basis, including on-call duties, shift work, emergency support, vendor coordination, and business coordination.
- Mentor A and B level engineers on complex issues impacting the infrastructure and TVA business processes.
Required Expertise
- Expert knowledge of middleware platforms such as web application servers (IIS, WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, Apache); business intelligence (Cognos, Tableau, OBIEE); and integration (TIBCO, SSAS, SSRS, SSIS, Informatica).
- Mobile computing platforms including SOA, plus security confirmation and management of those platforms.
- First- and third-party cloud hosting solutions (VMware, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure).
- In-depth understanding of a broad range of management, compute, and networking technologies.
- Advanced knowledge of Windows, VMware, and Unix-based operating systems.
Supplemental Platform Support (as needed)
SAC-P, Collibra, Actuate, Mulesoft (AMQ), Imperva, Cognos, Tableau, Dataiku, Denodo, and Informatica (PowerCenter, IICS, MDM, IDQ), plus Exchange and MDM on an as-needed basis.
Education & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- Travel to various locations away from the primary work site is required.
