Indexed description
Working at Brex allows you to push your limits, challenge the status quo, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We’re committed to building a diverse team and inclusive culture and believe your potential should only be limited by how big you can dream. We make this a reality by empowering you with the tools, resources, and support you need to grow your career.
Engineering at Brex
Engineering at Brex is about building systems that scale with speed and intention. Our teams span Software, Data, Security, and IT, and operate with high autonomy and deep collaboration. We tackle hard technical problems, own our outcomes, and push for excellence at every level — from architecture to deployment. It's an environment where engineering is a craft, and builders become leaders.
What You'll Do
As a Software Engineer II on the Cloud Infrastructure team, you will join a highly competent, senior group of engineers responsible for the foundational AWS ecosystem that powers Brex. Your primary focus will be working on our high-priority Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) initiative to completion, a critical company-level priority that ensures multi-region infrastructure resilience. You will work across Kubernetes, networking, and databases to build systems that scale with speed and intention, while collaborating with teams across the entire organization to drive the adoption of modern cloud infrastructure changes.
Where you'll work
This role will be based in our São Paulo office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.
Responsibilities
- Build and Scale: Maintain and evolve Brex’s core cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes (EKS), RDS/Postgres, and networking foundations.
- Execute BCDR Strategy: Contribute to the multi-year BCDR initiative by implementing multi-region infrastructure readiness and automated failover capabilities.
- Technical Ownership: Drive technical excellence across the stack, utilizing tools like Terraform, Docker, Flux, and Go to automate and improve infrastructure lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure seamless adoption of new infrastructure capabilities and support migrations.
- Incident Response: Participate in the team’s on-call rotation and contribute to improving our incident response frameworks and system reliability.
- Operational Hygiene: Foster a culture of technical excellence by improving work tracking, documentation, and operational best practices.
- Technical Foundation: Proven experience with cloud infrastructure foundations, specifically Kubernetes and Postgres.
- Operational Expertise: Experience with incident response and maintaining highly available production systems.
- Public Cloud Depth: Strong hands-on experience with AWS services and infrastructure-at-scale.
- Collaborative Mindset: Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate complex changes across multiple autonomous engineering teams.
- Engineering Background: Professional experience in software or systems engineering, with a focus on building scalable systems.
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience using Terraform to manage complex, multi-account environments.
- Resiliency Engineering: Prior experience with BCDR planning, multi-region rollouts, or disaster recovery frameworks.
- Optimization: Background in cloud infrastructure cost optimization or database performance tuning.
- Language Proficiency: Experience with Go, as it is a core part of our tech stack.
