Senior / Lead Platform Engineer

Location: UK Wide Hybrid Working

Security Clearance: SC Cleared or eligible for SC clearance preferred

We're supporting a major digital transformation programme delivering cloud-native platforms and critical services used at national scale.

This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering community working on some of the UK's most complex and interesting platform challenges, helping teams deliver secure, resilient and observable systems across modern cloud environments.

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, giving you the opportunity to influence architecture, engineering standards and platform strategy whilst remaining close to the technology.

What you'll be doing

• Designing and building secure multi-account cloud landing zones, primarily within AWS environments.
• Developing internal developer platforms and self-service capabilities to improve developer experience.
• Building and operating production-grade Kubernetes platforms across large-scale environments.
• Designing and implementing modern observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Driving cloud-native transformation and modernisation initiatives.
• Building secure CI/CD pipelines and embedding DevSecOps practices.
• Defining reliability standards, SLOs and operational best practices.
• Contributing to platform strategy, governance and engineering standards.
• Providing technical leadership, mentoring and support to engineering teams.
• Working closely with architects, engineers and stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges.

Technical experience we're looking for

Strong experience across several of the following areas:

• AWS cloud platforms
• Kubernetes (EKS or AKS)
• Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
• CI/CD tooling and automation
• GitOps approaches such as ArgoCD or Flux
• Observability tooling including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana
• DevSecOps and supply chain security
• Platform Engineering and Internal Developer Platforms
• Site Reliability Engineering practices
• Cloud cost optimisation and FinOps

We'd particularly like to hear from engineers who have experience of:

• Large-scale enterprise platforms
• Public sector or highly regulated environments
• Security-cleared programmes
• Cloud-native transformation projects
• Building reusable platform capabilities and engineering standards
