About MapLarge
Since 2009, MapLarge’s rapidly growing software platform has enabled Fortune 1000 enterprises and government agencies to develop, scale, and deploy mission‑critical applications. Trusted by the world's most sophisticated organizations, our enterprise platform for geospatial analytics and visualization automates decision intelligence and offers a distinct decision advantage. We build cutting‑edge products for large enterprises and government agencies that appreciate innovation. If you enjoy working with talented teammates to solve complex challenges, we'd love for you to join us.
About the Role
This is a senior IC engineering role for someone who is deeply technical, hands‑on, and passionate about building reliable, observable, and high‑quality software. You’ll own how MapLarge designs, tests, monitors, and ships production systems across the full lifecycle- from architecture and code to release safety, SLOs, and operational excellence.
You’ll spend meaningful time writing and reviewing code, shaping features to be operable and testable by design, building native quality and observability capabilities into our platform, and defining the reliability standards our customers depend on.
This is not a management role or a DevOps position- you earn influence by being in the code and building the systems that make our platform trustworthy.
Responsibilities
- Design and build products and features that are operable, testable, observable, and reliable from the start
- Write and review code, including hands-on test automation (e.g., Playwright)
- Build API‑first frameworks and product features for quality, testing, and monitoring- used internally and shipped to customers
- Create native diagnostics and in‑product capabilities (e.g., privacy‑aware “report a bug” flows)
- Define meaningful SLIs/SLOs and stand behind customer‑facing SLAs
- Own production readiness, operational reviews, capacity planning, and reliability tooling
- Own the build, test, and release lifecycle- progressive delivery, CI/CD quality gates, rollback strategy
- Drive test strategy across unit, integration, end‑to‑end, load, and chaos testing
- Strengthen observability: metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting
- Lead incident lifecycle discipline and convert findings into durable engineering improvements
Requirements
- Must reside in the continental United States
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related field)
- Authorized to work in the U.S. with no visa sponsorship
- 10+ years building and architecting production software (.NET/C#, TypeScript, Python, Linux)
- Strong operational lifecycle thinking- designing for operability, failure isolation, and graceful degradation
- Deep experience with SLOs/SLIs/SLAs and error‑budget‑driven decision making
- Hands-on test strategy and automation experience; strong CI/CD quality gate ownership
- Experience owning reliability of user‑facing systems in production
- Track record of building internal tooling as reusable, API‑first product capabilities
- Strong observability skills (metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, alerting)
- Experience with performance profiling, load testing, and capacity reasoning
Nice to Have
- Experience with high‑volume streaming or real‑time systems
- Reliability design for edge, disconnected, or offline environments
- Chaos/resilience engineering experience
- Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP
- Geospatial, big‑data, or high‑throughput analytics experience
- US person status or clearance eligibility
Cultural Fit
We hire all kinds of people, but four traits define our team:
- Fun to Work With — Life is short and work should be fun
- Smart — We solve cutting‑edge hard problems and need quick learners
- Passionate & Proactive — We want people who love their craft and bring energy and creativity
- Adaptable — Roles evolve as the business grows, and flexibility is essential
Benefits
- Competitive salary and 401K
- Top‑notch health care
- Family‑friendly environment
- 100% remote flexibility
- Cutting‑edge tech with an A+ team solving complex, meaningful problems
- Collaborative, intelligent, positive, and supportive team culture
