Platform Engineer
STS Digital (stsdigital.io) is a leading regulated digital asset trading firm specialising in OTC trading and market making. While trading is headquartered in Bermuda, technology development is provided by a vibrant global technology team.
We are seeking a Platform Engineer to join the Platform team. This role owns and operates the core cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and automation that underpin the company's engineering operations. It's a hands-on engineering role — you'll build and run infrastructure as code, improve CI/CD and developer experience, eliminate operational toil through automation, and help the team put AI/LLM tooling to work across our platforms and workflows. You'll play a key part in maintaining the reliability, security, and scalability of a mission-critical trading platform.
The role reports to the Platform Team Lead. English is the company language.
Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS (EKS, EC2, networking, IAM).
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), configuration management, and environment automation.
- Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Own system monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational health checks.
- Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and remediation.
- Write and maintain tooling, automation, and internal services to improve reliability and developer experience.
- Identify and eliminate operational toil through code rather than manual process.
- Use AI/LLM tooling to accelerate engineering work and integrate it into internal platforms and workflows where it adds value.
- Apply security best practices across infrastructure, and support patching, access reviews, and operational controls.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and platform standards to support reliability and consistency.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- 5+ years' total experience in software engineering.
- Of these, 3+ years in a Platform, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering role, with demonstrated ability to own and drive work independently (scope problems, make decisions, deliver with minimal oversight).
- Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes and containerised workloads (deploying, operating, and troubleshooting, not just familiarity).
- Strong AWS experience across core services (EKS, EC2, networking, IAM).
- Practical Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines — GitHub Actions preferred, or equivalent (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).
- Real, demonstrable coding ability — able to write, read, and maintain non-trivial code, not just glue scripts. (Go, .NET/C#, or Python a strong bonus.)
- Comfortable using AI tools in day-to-day engineering work (coding assistants, agentic workflows, etc.) and doing so effectively.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a pragmatic, service-oriented mindset.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of AI/LLM tooling beyond end-user consumption — e.g. building or integrating with LLM APIs, agent frameworks, RAG pipelines, MCP servers, prompt/eval tooling, or self-hosted model infrastructure.
- Exposure to SRE practices: monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident management.
- Knowledge of security fundamentals in cloud and enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting fast-paced engineering or financial services / trading teams.
- Some exposure to corporate IT / end-user systems (Office 365, Entra, identity and access management) — occasional support of these is part of the role, but it's a small slice, not the focus.
Our Tech Stack
- Infrastructure: AWS (EKS, EC2), Terraform
- CI/CD & Version Control: GitHub, GitHub Actions
- Backend: C#, Python
- Frontend: React
- Databases: PostgreSQL, DynamoDB
