Senior DevOps/SRE Engineer

A B2B SaaS AI startup we partner with at Joppy is looking to hire a Senior DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to help scale and optimize its cloud platform and AI infrastructure.

This role focuses primarily on the platform roadmap, occasionally embedding within product squads while driving impactful improvements that affect every engineer. You'll be hands-on, opinionated, pragmatic, and contribute code — this is not an ops-only position.

🎯 Responsibilities

1. Secure the data layer, including VPC, DNS, secrets, and IAM
2. Improve CI/CD processes and overall developer productivity
3. Enhance infrastructure observability by implementing clear, actionable metrics and dashboards — especially on AI workload costs and performance
4. Own and optimize cloud costs with a focus on visibility, predictability, and particularly AI-related spend
5. Scale and optimize performance for PostgreSQL, caches, queues, pub/sub, and search/analytics infrastructure (Elasticsearch, BigQuery, ClickHouse, or similar) as required by the product
6. Architect future platform features, including alerting, team growth, and preparing systems for the next stages of scale
7. Participate in shared maintenance, including bug fixing, monitoring, and dependency management, collaborating as part of a rotating squad
8. Use AI daily to automate infrastructure, debug, write code, and monitor systems

🛠️ Example projects you might tackle

1. Migrating PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases behind a VPC without downtime, while enhancing secrets and IAM management
2. Instrumenting AI workflows to measure, control, and optimize infra cost and performance as AI use scales
3. Streamlining CI/CD and preview environments to boost shipping speed for engineers and AI agents
4. Identifying and fixing key performance bottlenecks, optimizing queries/endpoints, and mentoring the team on best practices
5. Leading decision processes for adopting new analytics/search infrastructure based on real product needs

🛠️ Requirements

1. 5+ years of engineering experience, including time on a platform, infrastructure, or SRE team at a growing startup or scale-up maintaining production systems
2. Hands-on expertise with cloud infrastructure, VPCs, networking, IAM, and secrets management
3. Experience improving CI/CD and developer productivity in dynamic teams
4. Proven ability to optimize data layer performance: index design, partitioning, working with caches, queues, or pub/sub in production
5. Proficient with at least one analytics/search tool at scale (such as Elasticsearch, BigQuery, ClickHouse, etc.)
6. Comfortable using AI tools daily for work automation, debugging, coding, and monitoring
7. Ability to write clean code and contribute to a product monorepo (beyond traditional ops duties)
8. Fluent in Spanish and comfortable working in English (Spanish used for daily communication, English for documentation/projects)
