SAP Reliability Engineer

The SAP Site Reliability & Observability Engineer is responsible for driving the strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of observability and reliability capabilities across the enterprise SAP landscape. This role serves as the operational bridge between SAP application teams, infrastructure, and platform engineering by transforming telemetry into actionable operational intelligence.

The ideal candidate brings strong Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and observability experience, along with a working knowledge of SAP platform architecture and integrations. Rather than deep functional SAP configuration expertise, this role requires the ability to understand how enterprise SAP systems interact, identify performance bottlenecks, trace issues across infrastructure and integrations, and leverage automation to improve platform reliability.

The engineer will apply modern observability practices to proactively detect issues, reduce downtime, accelerate incident resolution, and continuously improve the health and stability of the SAP ecosystem using tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and SAP Cloud ALM.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and enhance observability solutions across the SAP landscape using Dynatrace, Splunk, and SAP Cloud ALM.
• Develop monitoring strategies that provide visibility into SAP platform health, application performance, infrastructure, and integrations.
• Instrument applications and services to correlate logs, metrics, traces, and events for end-to-end observability.
• Define and measure Service Level Indicators (SLIs) including availability, latency, error rates, and batch/job success.
• Build synthetic monitoring and automated health checks to proactively validate critical business services.
• Configure intelligent alerting across SAP infrastructure, applications, interfaces, and cloud services.
• Develop operational dashboards that provide actionable insights into system health, performance, and reliability.
• Navigate enterprise SAP environments to trace issues across infrastructure, middleware, integrations, and applications.
• Support technical triage, incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews for production issues.
• Partner with SAP Basis, infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to improve operational resilience and platform stability.
• Automate repetitive operational activities and implement reliability engineering best practices to reduce manual effort.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in monitoring, observability, automation, and incident management processes.
• Document technical findings, operational procedures, and lessons learned to improve organizational knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, Production Support, Infrastructure Engineering, or DevOps.
• Experience supporting enterprise production environments with a focus on platform reliability and operational excellence.
• Working knowledge of enterprise SAP architecture, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP Basis, SAP Integration Suite, SAP Cloud Platform, and related integrations.
• Conceptual understanding of large-scale SAP system architecture and how SAP applications integrate across enterprise platforms.
• Experience with enterprise observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Splunk, and SAP Cloud ALM.
• Understanding of SRE principles including observability, SLIs/SLOs, automation, availability, resiliency, and continuous service improvement.
• Experience troubleshooting distributed applications across infrastructure, middleware, APIs, integrations, and cloud environments.
• Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, major incident response, and post-incident reviews.
• Experience developing synthetic monitoring, health checks, and automated validation scripts.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
