Senior Platform Engineer
Tech Startup
$175k AUD - $225k AUD
Fully Remote
About the Company
One of a small platform team building the systems that everything else runs on. The company is a next-generation sports betting and gaming platform built for a new wave of players. Sharp product, bold brand, fast execution. Over 400,000 players have already made the move, and it's only just getting started. They own their platform and they deploy daily, so the systems underneath the product matter as much as the product itself.
About the Role
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who likes working close to the core of a platform: understanding how the pieces fit together, tightening the boundaries between them, and building the foundations that let every other team move faster and safer. You'll partner with the Australia team and the wider global Platform group, working across backend and platform systems rather than shipping product features.
Responsibilities
- Designing, building and improving the backend and platform systems that support the core product
- Working the hard platform problems: scalability, reliability, service isolation, regional readiness
- Defining clean boundaries and interfaces across existing services and data flows
- Building toward multi-region and future market expansion
- Improving observability, deployment, performance and operational maturity
- Working across the app layer and the platform foundations, with the team backing you on the deeper infrastructure work
- Contributing production code, reviews and technical design as part of daily delivery. Real code, not a calendar full of meetings
- Spotting failure points, reducing risk, and making the platform more resilient as usage grows
Qualifications
Strong senior-level backend or platform engineering experience
Required Skills
- A track record of independently delivering complex technical projects end to end
- Strong backend capability in Python, or a comparable modern language (Go, Rust, Java, Scala) and the appetite to pick up new ones fast
- A solid grip on distributed systems, scalability and architecture trade-offs
- Experience with microservices, service boundaries, eventual consistency, data separation or reliability engineering
- Comfort working across app-layer systems as well as platform and infrastructure concerns (this one matters: it’s genuinely both)
- Strong async communication and the ability to work well across time zones
- High ownership, sharp judgement, and comfort operating in ambiguity
Preferred Skills
The stack: Primarily Python on AWS. Flask/FastAPI, Pytest, Mypy, Docker, PostgreSQL, SQS/Kafka, S3, Terraform. Linear, Notion, Slack and a modern Mac-based setup. Daily deploys.
Pay range and compensation package
AUD $170k–225k plus an exceptional benefits package.
Full benefits offered

Committed to equal opportunities and building balanced teams. Reasonable adjustments available on request during the interview process.
