Lead Cloud & DevOps Engineer

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Lead Cloud & DevOps Engineer to join a high-impact customer engagement focused on cloud platform delivery, infrastructure automation, and DevOps excellence. This role is ideal for someone with deep Terraform expertise, strong Azure knowledge, and the ability to combine hands-on engineering with technical coordination responsibilities.

You’ll work closely with customer stakeholders and internal team members to help shape, stabilize, and improve a cloud environment, while also supporting a small team of engineers from Romania. This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys ownership, technical leadership, and solving complex infrastructure and platform challenges in enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and platform components using Terraform and Azure-native services.
• Take ownership of infrastructure-as-code practices, ensuring scalable, reusable, and well-governed Terraform implementations.
• Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and operational reliability across cloud environments.
• Act as a senior technical point of contact for the customer, collaborating directly with technical leadership and project stakeholders.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and coordination for a small engineering team, helping drive technical alignment and delivery quality.
• Contribute to cloud architecture decisions, environment improvements, and DevOps best practices.
• Work on Azure-based platform services and, where relevant, support multi-cloud or AWS-related components.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and ensure secure and efficient cloud operations.
• Support platform modernization efforts, with potential involvement in Databricks-related DevOps enablement and deployment workflows.
• Ensure documentation, knowledge sharing, and engineering standards are maintained across the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Cloud / DevOps / Platform Engineering roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, including advanced modules, reusable infrastructure patterns, and complex deployments.
• Solid experience with Microsoft Azure, including infrastructure, automation, and cloud operations.
• Proven background in DevOps engineering, including CI/CD pipelines, automation, infrastructure management, and production support.
• Experience in a senior or lead-level role, with the ability to provide technical coordination or informal team leadership.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, operational excellence, and infrastructure best practices.
• Ability to work directly with customers and technical stakeholders in a collaborative and professional way.
• Good communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and bring structure in dynamic project environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Databricks from a DevOps / platform engineering perspective.
• Familiarity with AWS in addition to Azure.
• Experience in enterprise-scale cloud transformation or platform delivery projects.
• Exposure to monitoring, observability, and cloud security best practices.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience working in distributed international teams.
• Background in leading or mentoring small engineering teams.
