Company Description
RisingWave is a live data company focused on empowering people and intelligent agents with real-time information about what is happening now. The organization builds technology that makes it easier to work with streaming and rapidly changing data. Team members collaborate closely with users and the broader community, including through channels such as the company’s public Slack. RisingWave offers opportunities to work on cutting-edge data infrastructure in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
The Role
You'll build and operate the control plane, serverless data-plane extensions, and automation that provision, scale, monitor, and bill managed RisingWave clusters. This is a systems- and infrastructure-heavy role spanning our control plane, Kubernetes, and multi-cloud infrastructure-as-code. You'll own features end to end — from design and implementation through rollout and on-call operability — and increasingly shape how we use agentic workflows to automate cluster operations and maintenance.
What You'll Do
- Design and build services in our control plane that orchestrate cluster lifecycle (provisioning, scaling, upgrades, restore, teardown).
- Build and operate serverless data-plane components that make compute elastic.
- Develop agentic workflows that automate cluster maintenance and operations.
- Extend our multi-cloud infrastructure automation (Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS and equivalents) across AWS, GCP, and Azure, including the BYOC deployment path.
- Improve metering, billing, and cost-attribution pipelines for managed and serving workloads.
- Strengthen observability and reliability — metrics, alerting, and dashboards (Prometheus/Grafana) — and reduce operational toil for the on-call rotation.
- Own features end to end: write design docs, ship well-tested code, review peers' PRs, and support what you build in production.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years building and operating backend or infrastructure systems in production.
- Strong programming skills in a modern systems language; Go preferred, or a comparable language with willingness to ramp up on Go quickly.
- Solid grounding in distributed systems and cloud fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes — writing controllers/operators or building on top of the K8s API is a strong plus.
- Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar).
- A bias toward writing tests, clear documentation, and operable systems — you think about failure modes, not just the happy path.
- Comfort operating what you build, including participating in an on-call rotation.
Nice to Have
- Experience building elastic/serverless compute or autoscaling systems (scale-to-zero, worker pools, resource provisioning).
- Experience building agentic / LLM-driven automation or applying AI to operations and infrastructure.
- Experience building or operating a managed database / data-infrastructure product (DBaaS, SaaS control planes).
- Familiarity with streaming systems, SQL engines, or real-time data pipelines.
- Multi-cloud or BYOC / customer-VPC deployment experience.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi).
- Exposure to monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Loki).
