- Hybrid ways of working, Sydney CBD office (Wynyard)
The Why
The Platform Engineer builds, maintains, and improves the shared platform capabilities that Ubank's engineering squads rely on daily, from CI/CD pipelines and golden pathway templates to observability dashboards and developer portal plugins. You will operate across platform domains including build systems, developer tooling, and production monitoring, contributing hands-on engineering capacity under the direction of senior platform engineers. The Platform Engineer applies GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry, scaffolding tools, and AI-assisted development practices in a regulated banking environment, ensuring platform services are reliable, well-documented, and adopted by the squads they serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance GitHub Actions workflows, including job structure, triggers, environments, caching, and integration with organisational policies.
- Author and review Dockerfiles and container image build steps, ensuring builds are reproducible, scanned, and suitable for CI and deployment targets.
- Design, implement, and evolve starter templates for Node.js/TypeScript, Angular, and supporting stacks, embedding platform standards and best practices.
- Maintain scaffolding CLIs and shared configuration packages so squads receive consistent project structure, linting, formatting, and build entry points.
- Build and maintain dashboards in Grafana or Datadog giving squads consistent visibility into service health, dependencies, and SLO adherence.
- 3-5 years in software engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering, with demonstrated delivery in production environments.
- Hands-on experience in at least two of: CI/CD pipeline development, developer tooling or template engineering, and observability or monitoring systems.
- Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript or Angular, plus exposure to at least one additional stack such as Python, React, or container-based toolchains.
- Awareness of working in a regulated environment, with familiarity applying secure-by-default and auditable practices, is desirable.
