Cloud Engineer - Kubernetes and GCP
Indexed description
As part of the Serverless Platforms Team, you will help design, build, operate, and continuously improve our cloud‑native and CI/CD platforms—including Kubernetes, serverless runtimes, and the enterprise Harness CI/CD ecosystem. You will work closely with application teams, security partners, and platform stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and repeatable deployment patterns using GitOps, infrastructure as code, and modern DevSecOps practices.
With a strong foundation in cloud‑native development and platform engineering, you will help ensure our platforms are reliable, governed, and easy to consume—while fostering a culture of technical excellence, automation, and continuous improvement. If you are passionate about Kubernetes, CI/CD platforms, and solving complex platform‑scale challenges, join us to help shape the future of healthcare technology.
Role Summary
As a Cloud Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to design, deploy, and support containerized and serverless platforms on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and to operate and evolve the enterprise Harness CI/CD platform. You will enable application teams to build, test, and deploy software through standardized, secure, and scalable pipelines while ensuring platform reliability, compliance, and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters and workloads on GKE using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices.
- Operate and support the enterprise Harness CI/CD platform, including build, deploy, and infrastructure pipelines, ensuring availability, reliability, and consistent developer experience across teams.
- Develop and maintain standardized Harness pipeline templates for build, test, security scanning, and deployment to Kubernetes and serverless runtimes.
- Partner with application teams to onboard services to Harness, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and best‑practice enablement.
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines with Infrastructure as Code tooling (e.g., Terraform) and GitOps solutions (e.g., ArgoCD, Flux) to support repeatable and auditable deployments.
- Embed security and compliance controls into CI/CD workflows, including vulnerability scanning, policy enforcement, secrets management, and audit logging to meet HIPAA, SOX, and enterprise security requirements.
- Collaborate with DevSecOps and Application Security teams to shift security left within the SDLC, leveraging tools such as Trivy, Aqua, or equivalent scanners integrated into Harness pipelines.
- Monitor platform health, pipeline execution, and application performance using tools such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, and cloud‑native monitoring; perform root cause analysis and drive incident resolution.
- Participate in code and pipeline reviews, establish platform standards, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
- Enforce platform governance and guardrails using policy‑as‑code approaches (e.g., OPA), ensuring consistency, observability, and compliance across all environments.
- Act as a technical liaison between the Serverless Platforms Team and partner organizations, translating business and delivery needs into scalable platform capabilities.
- Communicate platform changes, incident status, and best practices through clear runbooks, release notes, and stakeholder updates; facilitate working sessions to drive alignment and unblock delivery.
- Stay current with cloud‑native and CI/CD trends, contributing to the ongoing evolution of Cardinal Health’s cloud and DevOps strategy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering with a strong focus on Kubernetes and GCP (preferred).
- Hands‑on experience designing, operating, or supporting CI/CD platforms, preferably Harness CI/CD in an enterprise environment.
- Strong understanding of microservices, event‑driven architectures, and distributed systems.
- Experience with GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and automated delivery pipelines.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, security scanning, and compliance requirements in regulated environments.
- Exceptional communication skills—able to translate complex platform and security concepts for both technical and non‑technical audiences, and to influence outcomes through clear documentation and stakeholder alignment.
- Proven problem‑solving skills and the ability to operate effectively in complex, evolving environments.
