Project Description
AMD is building a hardware-assisted security platform that uses silicon-level Performance Monitoring Counters (PMCs) and on-chip machine learning to detect advanced endpoint threats (including ransomware, fileless malware, and cryptojacking) at the processor layer, below the operating system, making it resistant to OS-level evasion techniques.
The platform collects CPU behavioral telemetry, classifies it using an ML inference engine, and exposes threat signals to security software partners through a standardized API. The team is responsible for the entire technology stack, including silicon telemetry, ML training and validation, real-time inference, laboratory qualification, and CI/CD.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture of the end-to-end hardware threat detection platform, including the PMU/IBS kernel driver, ML inference pipeline, partner SDK, and hardware attestation.
- Define and enforce technical quality standards, including detection efficacy KPIs (detection rate and false-positive rate), performance budgets (CPU overhead), and API backward compatibility.
- Lead cross-functional architectural decisions spanning silicon, kernel drivers, machine learning, and real-time processing pipelines.
- Own the partner SDK strategy and maintain technical relationships with security software integration partners.
- Lead efficacy validation across malware variant test suites.
- Mentor SMTS-level engineers across laboratory, ML, real-time, and CI/CD teams.
- Represent the platform in external technical forums and partner engagements.
- Identify and mitigate program-level technical risks.
Mandatory Skills
- 12+ years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a technical leadership or Principal Engineer role.
- Deep expertise in:
- CPU microarchitecture and performance monitoring.
- Machine learning systems and inference pipeline engineering.
- Systems software and kernel development.
- Endpoint security platform architecture.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering efforts from inception to production.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executive stakeholders, engineering teams, and external partners.
- Experience defining program-level KPIs and technical quality gates.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with hardware-assisted security technologies on any major processor architecture.
- Background in endpoint security research, malware analysis, or enterprise-scale threat intelligence.
- Experience with AMD silicon or AMD security processor technologies.
- Patent portfolio or published research in hardware security or machine learning for cybersecurity.
- Experience managing technical programs with external security software partners, including joint engineering, certification, and go-to-market initiatives.
